Yeah it's probably fake. There are a handful of really stupid people on 4chan who really aren't in on the joke, but there's also a sort of deeper level to it where it's really people who want to be in on jokes being trolled by the people who know it's all fake. Like why would someone -post back- after deleting their operating system? If they had another computer they'd have been using it rather than their father's probably.

Yeah it's absurd that someone would follow those instructions, even type out "del c:\windows". Plus the .bat doesn't have the switch setting so would come up for delete confirmation. Pretty sure too that windows XP won't let you delete the system32 folder.

The "victim" isn't even trolling with any talent. I used to admin a game forum, good community with some quality trolls.

First thing I'd do after seeing anything remotely dubious posted is run IP search. The forum software has it built into the admin panel but FTW I also had playernames, IPs and Punkbuster GUID database from some of the most popular servers. 90% of the time there's an exact match to one or more of the usual suspects.

Other 10% of the time it's the smart ones who reset their router for a new IP, but it's still in the same IP batch and suspicions confirmed by next day as he'd played on the server.

One bugger - and he was a right little shit sometimes - tried it from school once but didn't adjust his posting style, that was quite the error as he was being a right dick that that point and all of a sudden I had the option of reporting abuse to the school to hold over him.

'Course in a close-knit community real names were to be had from someone. Occasionally a troll would make their move and I or a troll account could play along but drop their real name in somewhere, just to make it clear the game was on and the kind of standards that were to be expected.

Dunno how admins work it nowadays with cellphones, open wifi, proxies and whatnot.

Similar situation, I had holes in my walls all over my uni room and landlord was coming to show the rooms for potential new rents. So the day before I got a buddy to come help fix everything, then decided to just put pictures up over all of them and leave some money at the end of the year.

I bought a pair of those shoes back in late march. I bought them because I wanted a comfy pair of comfy shoes to stand around in during airport security while I was traveling to see family. They're good shoes.

I'm not complaining that my shoes are becoming too mainstream but I really want to know why, lately, I've been seeing hundreds of people with these same shoes.

This is true. Reddit uses a tree heirarchy, while 4chan lists all comments in a linear thread, chronologically. This makes sense on 4chan because the idea of "identity" is very different over there. You don't have an account or username, you don't earn karma, everyone is an equal Anon. You could still reply to people by linking to their comment, and you could use temporary usernames; for example, if you're the OP you use that.

You get used to it, it's just more barebones.
