I'd say "Hate the lie, not the believer."

The actual liars are quite deserving of hate, I feel.

While completely understanding where you are coming from, to play devils advocate; Is it not your fault for being lied to? Aren't we supposed to be demanding evidence? Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me kind of a deal.

I know it isn't easy being lied to, but it is along the same lines of being offended. You are the one allowing the other person to have control over how you are perceiving the situation.

Discussion and thoughts on the mater from anyone appreciated.

For the most part I agree with you. The problem is that the deception often begins when we are young children, who have yet to reach that maturity level. With those deep roots it becomes easy to forget demanding for evidence later in life.

True. The thing is this was probably based on "Don't hate the player, hate the game", so it was formulated like this to be more recognizable.

No, it was based on "Hate the sin, love the sinner" which is a Christian's way of saying they hate gays without hating gays.

Upvoted for 'openly' and 'lifestyle'.

I think the irony and puns were heavily intended, and they made me smile a lot.

There was a humorous post on this a day or two back, which I think he's continuing. I hope this catches on on /r/atheism more.

As far as I am concerned people are free to live their lives as they want too. If that means being devoutly religious than by all means go for it. Just don't push that rhetoric on me or anyone else.

People who feel it is their duty to proselytize their religion to anyone who has ears is what really bothers me.

Without liars you don't have lies. The liars are who I hate.

What about the misinformed, or those who come to incorrect conclusions? Nobody can get everything right.

Correct the lies, hate the willfully ignorant.

the way i see it, when someone tells a LIE their intentions are to deceive

ignorance is just not knowing any better, there isn't mal intent

It sounds like a semantic issue, then. I believe the original post was speaking about the misinformed (those passing off the lie as if it were truth, for they think it is the truth), not about the actual creators of the lie (which is who, I believe, you were referring to).

Though, the original creators of the lie could have just came to an incorrect conclusion and was too stubborn or thick-headed to admit error, or was never challenged. There may have never been an intention to deceive. Just throwing around possibilities.

"Hate" is a bit too strong of a word, but if we lessen it to 'argue with,' then this is bad mentality. Unlike things like race, gender, and sexual orientation, your belief system is a choice, and are therefore subject to criticism for it.

Hitchens said it best "hate the religion, not the religious"

Don't hate the people who vote against marriage equality, hate the system that forces them to do so.

Whenever I meet someone who is choosing to openly live the Christian Lifestyle, I don't get angry at them. But whenever I meet someone who is choosing to openly oppress other people because of their Christian Lifestyle, I prepare for war.

Christianity should be taught in public schools as all Mythology should!

I'd feel the same way if you called it someone openly living the Atheist lifestyle

Life's too short to hate. Besides, "hating" something just takes more effort than I'm usually willing to muster. I just regard all of it with utter disdain. A lot less energetically intensive.

It's easy to get frustrated with the religious or basically anyone that believes in nonsense and fairytales...

However, if you take a step back and realize that these people are victims; it changes the conversation.

I stop arguing with them and try to stay calm and help them reach enlightenment.

It's hard sometimes... especially with people who are real assholes.
