I've alway wondered why was he recording himself doing sit-ups in the first place?

Because he was filming it on purpose. If you look closely, you'll notice that this guy didn't put too much effort in whatever software he used to create a 3D model of his TV. It flips unrealistically after hitting his head. Also, there are no cables attached.

Bingo! It's staged

I think the TV is real, just made of cardboard or something else light.

It's not real, there was a link to his youtube channel a while ago, he has plenty of similar videos and I think there also were tutorials on how to make them.

Why does it flip unrealistically? Don't think so.

It bounces off his head and flips, at that moment you can see that shadows are not working very well and it spins way too fast. Also, no cables.

No cables doesn't mean the TV is a 3D model. I had previously thought that it was a physically real, but structurally fake (cardboard) TV like they use in displays at furniture stores. It just seems like a lot of work to make a 3D model just for this prank. It's also very well done, and for the most part, the shadows look right.

No, it's definitely a 3D model. Here's the original video, if you listen closely, you'll notice that the sound doesn't quite match up (he obviously used a simple "Object falling" sound from a free library) and TV starts falling even before the cat touches it. Also, cat doesn't react at all, which doesn't make sense. Cat would at least look at the source of such a loud bang, but it acts as if nothing happened, which is how it's supposed to react, because the TV doesn't actually exist.

I watched it about 100 more times and found evidence for your side. If you watch the cat closely, its head appears from nowhere behind the TV. One frame you can't see anything to the right of the TV and the next you can see the entire head of the cat. He clearly created a square section of the wall corresponding to the TV standing up and hid the cat behind this, but didn't adjust this as his 3D model "fell" off the bench.

Nice spot. It's pretty well done.

You can tell it's staged - the cat is trying too hard to act nonchalant.
