Years ago, while I was working as a truck driver, I took notice of a safety poster that a customer had displayed in their loading area. On this poster there were many different photos of many different hands. I guess, maybe, sometimes, for some reason, signs on equipment that warn of crushing, or burning, or breaking of your hands will result if you put them between those gears, or in that fire, or under that elevator just weren't enough. There was a picture of a crushed hand; crushed so badly you could hardly tell that it used to be a hand. There was a burned hand. You could see bone and pieces of glove melted onto blackened flesh. There was a missing hand, it was a picture of a blood covered wrist with a few pieces of bone sticking past the torn meat and muscle. There was one picture that was far more fucked up than all the others though. The thumb and index finger were intact, as was the palm. The other three fingers were just bone. There must have been a little something left holding the bones together, but it wasn't much. Can you imagine if you were working on something, and you stuck your hand inside an access hole on the side of it, and you felt a little pinch or tug or something on your hand, and when you pulled it back out, you could see your fucking finger bones? Just staring in disbelief at them, probably trying to wiggle all of your fingers, but the bones just...lay there...fuck...what would the bones even do? God damn I think that fucking poster gave me mother fucking PTSD....
