I'm a meat eater, and i like soy milk (still prefer cows milk). There are some vegetarian options i do prefer to the real thing though: veggie butter for example has a completely different taste than it's dairy counterpart. Much more flavorful and goes well on plain noodles.

The typical soy milk, Silk Vanilla, is pretty sweet and a delicious treat to the average palette.

Of course, if you had soy milk, without vanilla flavoring, or even veggie soy milk, you probably wouldn't like that.

Unfortunately, as an Asian, I am lactose intolerant. Not only does it suck to be an Asian, but it also fucking sucks to be lactose intolerant. I drank soy milk for about five years without drinking any cow milk, and recently I had my first cup of chocolate milk with some Krispy Kreme donuts. MY GOD. IT WAS HEAVEN.

And on the seventh day, I created hell in the toilet.

Try the chocolate flavored. The plain soy milk tastes like shit indeed. It's lighter on the stomach than cow's milk and I have a friend that puts it in his protein supplements after a work out. I don't endorse this protein supplement crap but he says he feels much better drinking it compared to cow's milk or just plain water.

North American soy milk can taste really bad, but Chinese-style soy milk is sweet and refreshing. It's even delicious warm! Try it, they're seriously worlds apart.

I can say that it doesn't taste bad when you haven't had cow's milk in a long time because it makes you sick. Trick is to put it on cereal or in a smoothie the first time you try it. Or use rice or almond milk.

If it's a crappy unsweetened, unflavored brand, the yes, it pretty much tastes like liquid cardboard. I'm still slightly traumatized by the first time I tried fresh soy milk at a Chinese restaurant in DC. It was warm, kinda salty (like yak's milk?!). This was completely unexpected, so I sprayed that shit out. Regardless, I love soy milk now. Eden Vanilla is quite delicious and I strongly recommend Pacific's vanilla and chocolate hemp milk. It's good stuff.
