Fine, but don't tell them that Marcus Aurelius said it because he didn't. I wish there was a way to remove this erroneous bitmap from the Internet.

I agree. Especially coming from a platform of always questioning and investigating everything, misquotes like this just make us look stupid.

It was Epicurus, I think.

No. Epicurus came up with the problem of evil. This is a slightly modified Athiest's Wager.

You don't have to tell them this, just say, "What if you're wrong?".

Yes, that is a much better answer. Because it gets straight to the point, contradicts them, and you don't have to waffle on.

That is some awesome ancient logic, I'm going to commit that to memory.

2010 is not our ancient past.

Oh good, I'm sure they'll be really rational and understanding and see the logic in that statement...

Whether or not Marcus Aurelius said it or not, its still tattooed down my side. 3.5 hours of sweet stinging pain.

This logic may be applicable to some theists, but it holds no weight to Christians.

Also, not to be a dick, but this is a huge repost. It's great, but it comes up like twice a month. And still, completely non-applicable to christianity, which is what 90% of internet users encounter.

Can't find this picutre but it was on reddit before on imgur...Here is what you should say: The question is asked so often to atheists "What if you´re wrong"? If I'am wrong that means that one of the world's religions is right. Possibly yours. If I'am wrong you have made me aware of what you think the consequences are. But dear theist, what if you are? What if You are wrong? What if you could be living a life free from guilt? What if you could live with the morality you wanted? A morality that isn't based on millena old traditions. A morailty based on the social progresses of societal and philosophical advancements What if you could hold to a belief that allowed equality? Equailty of women and equal rights for homosexuals What if you could truly examine the world aroun you, and try to discover it's wonderours secrets without any pre-conceived, unquestionable "truths" What if you were free to make your own choices?? What if you were free to live you own life? what if you are wrong?
