Spoilers for you, then. Sam is in Hell, with LucifeR, Michael, and Jake. Castiel and Crowley need some dirty work to be done, so Castiel breaks Sam out of Hell. However, he could not get Sam's soul as well. So for the first ~10 episodes of season 6, Sam is soulless, and his soul is trapped in the deepest, darkest part of Hell for like a year and a half.

It's a tv show called Supernatural, which I cannot recommend highly enough. It begins as as horror show about two brothers who hunt monsters. It then slowly pulls back and introduces more characters and mythologies until it becomes a fantasy show that deals with the Judeo-Christian apocalypse. It asks some great questions and is actually surprisingly deep.

I normally smile, then remind them that all the strippers, rock stars, scientists, engineers, and lawyers are in hell, which means we have porn, music, and most likely air conditioning (thanks engineers and scientists).

All heaven has is grandma and Ghandi. I'll take hell.
