This graphic originated on a satirical website (christwire, I think) and is intended as a parody. What blows my mind is that there are christians out there that present it as earnest evidence.
Edit: Since this thread is getting so much interest and I'm getting so many upvotes, I thought I had an obligation to do a little research. Turns out it probably didn't come from christwire but a different satire site, LandoverBaptist. That still doesn't mean it is the original source and that it was intended as satire, but I'm guessing it is.
[–]Terrik27 77 points78 points79 points 9 months ago
So we need to inundate the internet with a bunch of satirical pseudoscience for theists to latch on to, so that no one who isn't already crazy takes them seriously!
[–]Namiriel 31 points32 points33 points 9 months ago

Is there such thing as a "good Christian"?
[–]totallygeeky 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
It's a common oxymoron. The true christians can't be good, for they are too deep in hole to see the sun, and the "good" christians obviously don't fully believe everything if they can do anything good on their own.

That's actually very clever. Atheists (assuming) satirize Christianity, and then Christians use the satires as evidence against evolution, only further amusing the Atheists. They are feeding the troll for their amusement.

[–]Gradual_KKK_Member 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago*

Edit: This is a link to their website. It looks ridiculous. http://www.landoverbaptist.org/

They somehow have managed to assume that the amount of water on the earth is both constant (because they say the amount here today is the amount here at the time the earth formed) and changing (because they say it disappears when it's used by humans) at the same time.
[–]theworstkindofperson 20 points21 points22 points 9 months ago
a million robot voices just called out in terror before exploding.
[–]WasIRong 12 points13 points14 points 9 months ago*
yeah. The biggest error in the analysis that people overlook is the fact that they use the current amount of water on the Earth to determine that it is impossible. "I have been eating 10 burgers a day for the past 100" days "Impossible" claims the christian. "There are only 30 burgers left - for you to have eaten 1000 burgers there would have to be 33.3x as many burgers on the planet!"
[–]DexDurden 4 points5 points6 points 9 months ago
and that the human population has always been 7 billion
[–]Harddaysnight1990 3 points4 points5 points 9 months ago
Still, assuming the amount of water 3 billion years ago is the same as the amount of water now, and assuming the water cycle doesn't work, the integral of the rate of change of the population of those 3 billion years would be some freakishly huge number, which accounts for every human that has ever lived. Then, assuming an average and changing life span over those 3 billion years, along with population over those 3 billion years, and average amount of water used per person per day over those 3 billion years, you'd take a double integral over the rate of change of water in that 3 billion years to find the amount of water used. Now, if you assumed that the watercycle didn't work, we would have used up all of the water on Earth many times over.
Note: I'm not saying that the figures are true, I'm just saying that if they took the time to do the real multivariable calculus, their argument would still be valid (again, assuming that every scientist ever is wrong about the water cycle and the whole conservation of matter thing).
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Yeah and I hear people 3 billion years ago drank a lot of wine instead of water.
[–]Canucklehead99 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Actually, the REAL problem is that this fact states that we are RETAINING all this water!!! LOL. Bunch of water balloons with legs walking around never releasing that water back into the earth. Piss or not, it will break down back to water at some point. Not to mention evaporated sweat of billions of people too.

This reminds me of a guy I barely knew in college claiming that the planet was getting heavier due to overpopulation.
[–]MrKequc 22 points23 points24 points 9 months ago
Surely it would be getting lighter because humans consume many times their own weight in food over the course of their lifetime.
[–]PhilxBefore 13 points14 points15 points 9 months ago
Even if it were true, what would happen if the earth became heavier? Did he think it would fall out of space?
[–]MrRumfoord 16 points17 points18 points 9 months ago
We'll crush the turtle.
[–]PhilxBefore 7 points8 points9 points 9 months ago
How heavy would we have to become to crush all the turtles?
[–]HiddenSage 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
42.
[–]pjdavis 4 points5 points6 points 9 months ago*
Makes sense. If the earth is getting heavier due to overpopulation, that would explain why we are gaining weight so rapidly. Heavier earth = more mass = bigger gravitational effect = obesity.
So the blame for the obesity epidemic rests squarely on overpopulation.

[–]lati0s- 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago

[–]kilo4fun 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago

[–]Brijesh1996 42 points43 points44 points 9 months ago
Sorry sir, but there is no evidence for this "Water Cycle" theory that you are proposing. If there really is a "Water Cycle" why can't we see it?!?!?! Dumb scientists saying that my water is older than my parents. If i put a drop of water on the table it doesn't stay there for ever. BOOOOM "Water Cycle" theory is fake scientific lies to force me to pee.
[–]Tygeminator 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
There is no proof of a macro water cycle, we have only observed micro water cycles. If science is so sure, why is it only called a theory and not a fact?
[–]Letherial 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
I know you don't mean it, but even just using "Why is it only called a theory and not a fact" statement makes me hate you. I'm sorry, it has to happen.
[–]Omelet 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Strangely, that didn't make any mention of the fact that when animals drink water, they get rid of a great deal of it as waste. They brought up sweating, but that's all.
[–]kpyle 19 points20 points21 points 9 months ago
The water goes in, nothing comes out
You can't explain that!
[–]salydra 23 points24 points25 points 9 months ago
At some point when I was in high school I was thinking about the situation of water on earth, and I thought that maybe there was a pretty good chance that at some point I drank one or more molecules of water that were at some point pissed out by a pharaoh. I thought that was kinda cool. Although apparently drawing that conclusion required more brain power than the average creationist is capable of.

That's just moving the goal posts. If you think she's up to it, tell her about synthetic biology. The point with that is that we are moving towards making living structures from scratch. Do we now? No, though ask her what happens when -- not if -- we do make our own organisms.

Seriously though, it's ironic that this (which I believe was a joke when it first came out) comic gets used actively by people who don't understand it.
[–]edman007 4 points5 points6 points 9 months ago
They missed one thing, that actually should reverse it, humans produce water, about 300ml a day, that means if you drink 2L of water a day then 2.3L will come out of you per day, thus we should all be swimming, because 6Bn people, making 0.3L of water per day for 3Bn years, that is 1.971 * 1018 m3 of water, which should raise the sea level by ~3.8km!
NUMBERS IN MY ARGUMENTS therefore SCIENCE! christian logic.

I mean, some things are just common sense, and it's disgusting that people believe not only a few things similar to this, but a lot of them.
The only rebuttal you need for this: FUCKING RAIN!
[–]bruiserman 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
not really, it's actually the water cycle which includes rain among other processes.
rain helps. RAIN!!!
Guys, I just did the math. There's 1000 million tonnes of oxygen at our disposal and each year we, as humans, consume 6 million tonnes. This means the Earth was created 150 years ago, and we have only another 150 years left. We should all thank God that we were born in these times.
[–]lostinsleeep 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago

Warning: Long post and wondering if everything said is correct (feel free to correct or add).
Some people don't seem to understand science (Or the scientific approach). Science is about disproving a hypothesis. It is a method to erase all possible mistakes in order to get closer to truth. That is why people try to even disprove well founded scientific findings (e.g. nothing is faster than the speed of light).
Science really doesn't answer questions. Science doesn't prove. Science isn't a person. Science is a tool to broaden your horizon. People try to use science to question everything. People use the scientific method for a reason. This reason you'll discover after reading into "Theory of Knowledge" and "Philosophy of science".
Scientist: "Nothing is faster than the speed of light!" and fires a proton at CERN.
Scientist: "Nothing is faster than the speed of light!" and fires a neutrino at CERN.
Scientist has a nervous breakdown: "OMG WHAT DID I JUST WITNESS? God forgive, Einstein was wrong!"
Scientist edits Einstein's theory: "Nothing is faster than the speed of a neutrino!".

I feel dumber for reading that...

As a christian, this hurts me

[–]NervousMcStabby 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Beyond the logical fallacies, what exactly are they trying to prove? That god recycles water for us?
[–]Tyler2191 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Most water is recycled at this point whether through man or nature (evaporation). Argument not entirely valid.
[–]calebgamb 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Hah, christians using science.

[–]catfacem3n 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
I can't help but believe. Because of this, there must be a god, specifically Yahweh!
[–]MoriahT 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
"It's called the water cycle, and it happens all the time..." Oh, wait! I forgot that while most elementary schoolers learned this song in like 2nd grade, you were busy buring your nose in your Bible while the priest was buring something of his in you! Fucking lunatics!

[–]I_CATS 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago
The joke is on us, as when we get rid of religion one day, all these idiots will also be atheists. They are not going to get any smarter, you know, so there goes our superiority.
[–]Aavagadrro 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago
I think perhaps I will post this to my FB and see how many likes it gets from the fundies.
[–]spdeuce 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago
So much for that water cycle eh?

[–]phrank12 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago
In addition to the negligence of the water cycle, did anyone else notice the premise that the earth originated with it's present day human population 3 billion years ago?
[–]StockAL3Xj 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago
this kinda pisses me off, but its kinda funny at the same time...
[–]HeDoesntAfraid 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago
Wasnt this made as a joke?
[–]Aerodozz 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago
If you really raged at this, it was a successful troll.
[–]akshayxyz 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago
If I were an atheist 'on a mission', I would make 1000s of such 'facts', pretending to be coming from a theist.
[–]latigre 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago
I thought atheism was about rational, logical thought. Your beliefs about theists are clearly skewed by your beliefes about the nonexistence of a Supreme Being. Any logical person could not contest that this argument defending the "young earth" theory is purported by any but the most extreme and dim witted theists. Presenting this as a representative sample of arguments by theists against atheism is analogous to theists presenting the atheist that happens to be a murderer as the prime example of atheism.
