The story!

That was indeed what we all came to the comments for.

TL;DW?

Tiger was a problem tiger in the area. Local officials responsible go out with a lot of dudes on elephants to tranq the tiger and remove it. The tiger was more aggressive than expected, and made the jump at a mahout shown in the gif.

They don't have or didn't post the footage just after the tiger's landing. We don't see any details of the actual attack.

However, footage resumes shortly after, and we see the attacked mahout with one arm badly injured - lots of blood, fingers going all whichway, he's holding it up for another man to bandage, visibly in shock.

They took him to a hospital, the injuries really sucked, but it sounded like he made a full recovery.

They apparently fired rifles into the air during the attack, and the noise scared off the tiger, sufficiently that despite not tranq-ing and removing the cat, it hasn't returned to the area.

TL;DR, you impatient bastard? The mahout got bitten badly on the arm, made full recovery, the tiger was scared off but survived the encounter and has not bothered people since.

'Cause when you have a tiger sitting on top of a dude, with his arm in its mouth, on top of an elephant, your first inclination is to shoot at the tiger from your perch on the back of your scared, moving, elephant.

With the number of people the video says were there, and the fact that everyone was freaking the fuck out, I really doubt anyone would have been comfortable taking that shot unless they didn't care about shooting the mahout, the rider behind him, or the elephant.

My assumption is that either the cameraman freaked and dropped the camera, or they cut out the bit of the dudes arm being chewed on for their "more sensitive viewers." I also don't think they would have had a problem fessing up had they killed it - once an animal attacks a person, it no longer gets "keep it alive" treatment, no matter it's endangered status.

I don't think this is a tiger hit-squad coverup.
