To be honest, I was expecting Mastodon groupies to be a bunch of chubby dudes with neckbeards.

So...is anyone else wondering why Barney was at a Mastodon/Dillinger Escape Plan show?

There was a Barney musical thing going on on the other side of the Venue, during the beginning of tonight's show. It was at the Murat in Indy. I just got back from the show and it was weird to see so many 5 year olds around a bunch of drunk metal heads, we got a lot of dirty looks from parents heh.

There was a Demi Lovato show right next to the Mastodon show on Wednesday night. There was a curious mix in the parking lots of beard metal dudes and clean cut fathers taking their daughters to the show next door.

The B-man's trying to get Baby Bop into the hardcore scene, just playing the protective older brother role, y'know?

Gotta love that lens hood vs. built in flash effect. Really makes the upper 3/4 of the picture just, pop!

I was wondering why the singer from DEP was telling us we were a bunch of pussies who should have been at the Barney show...

To be honest when I met them I was expecting them to be douches....they are actually pretty nice.

I disagree, It looks horrible.

Would have to investigate as to what it actually means, if it is part of some heritage or the like....

He got it to cover up a giant scar on his head from the fall that left him in the hospital.

[–]TheMeatball 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

"That fall" being getting his ass kicked at an awards show by a dude from System of a Down?

[–]i_am_ahab_ 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Technically he got punched (once?) and fell and hit his head on some shit. But I guess it's all the same.

[–]RonSwansonsSmile 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well, yeah.

I didn't know that Shavo hit him. I just thought that Shavo just happened to be there? I thought the actually punch was thrown by some producer that was there or something? I could be totally wrong. Either way, it got Brent to mellow out, so that's good.

I am wondering how I missed this story. That's pretty wild... but how I wish it were the System member that was hemorrhaging instead of someone who actually contributes to writing decent songs....

:(

I read in an interview that a tattoo artist friend of his said he'd do it for free, and the only free space he had was on his face, so he got it there.

[–]tenchimyoHelloween 0 points1 point ago

not sure if that's a good reason or he should be a man and show the scar (GI JOE) but I have no idea how big that scar is.

At an impasse

I guess I have to be the one to say it here... THE NEW HUNTER ALBUM FUCKING BLOWS!

I miss OG Mastodon :(

[–]mattosaurmattosaur 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

IMO, it blows significantly less live. There are some actual badass songs on there once you peel back the production style.

Dry Bone Valley and Blasteroid in particular were awesome live.

"I wanna drink some fucking blood". You can't tell me that's not metal

So I've been listening to Mastodon for a few years. Never got in to the band bios but I bet I can call their spots in the band based on this pic. In order, from left to right, drums, lead singer and rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass. Amirite?

[–]Mobh 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No, it's guitar, bass, drums, guitar. They all do vocals too, if I recall correctly.

[–]demian64 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Wow, how often is the most conventional, clean cut guy the drummer in a band. That makes me respect them more somehow. Thanks for the info! I wanted to go see them with Red Fang last week but just wasn't feeling up to it. Bummed me out a bit. I turn 39 soon and I'm trying to maintain a decent number of a shows per year.

[–]mattosaurmattosaur 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You missed out. Red Fang is fantastic, and Mastodon killed it.

[–]demian64 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Damn. Would've loved to seen them both. I saw Meshuggah and Ministry a couple of years ago. Amazing show. Tommy Victory from Prong was playing guitar for Ministry. Just an excellent experience.

[–]Cammanjam -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

And IMHO, Dillinger was the biggest group of tools. Musical taste aside, they kinda made asses of themselves. Agreed though, Red Fang and Mastodon did an excellent job

[–]dark_roast 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Alestorm's drummer is by far the most clean-cut and conventional in that band. Shit, he was probably the most clean-cut and conventional looking person in the whole club when I saw them play.

[–]jjjimmmy 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Lead guitar, bass, drums, rhythm guitar. You were close.

"Lead" and "rhythm" are used loosely of course. At this point in their career I'm not sure who I'd call the lead singer; all four had mics last night.

[–]mattosaurmattosaur 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If you're going to call anyone the lead singer, it'd probably be Troy Sanders. He sings on 75% of the songs at least.
