Don't mind me asking but WHAT THE FUCK?

The guy is Kenny Omega, an American a Canadian wrestler who's achieved national fame in Japan. The girl is a young trainee, they were just doing an exhibition match for fun.

You can see the whole thing right here!

Is it only baby seals that are yummy? What about mother, or father seals? How do they taste?

A bit too ripe for my taste.

So in your mind "American" refers to anyone who lives between 30 and 165 degrees longitude?

Merriam-Webster's Definition of American: (n) A native or citizen of the United States.

While you're right that the 'Americas' include North and South America, an American is a resident of the United States, much in the same way a Brazilian is a resident of Brazil, a Canadian is a resident of Canada, and a Cuban is a resident of Cuba.

So KLowD9x is not technically right, as the explanation above is the technical explanation.

edit to respond to edit:

Europe has Europeans. Check.

Asia has Asians. Check, Check.

Australia is still just the one country, but they're Australians. Check*3

'America' is not a continent like Europe, Asia, and Australia. America is an abbreviated version of the United States of America, and is the formally accepted and recognized English nomenclature having been used in several international documents as such.

However, to go off your line of thinking (Continent -> Continent+Demonymn) here is the logical conclusion:

North America (Mexico, Canada, U.S., Cuba) -> North American

South America -> South American.

No he is not fucking right. If one were to refer to the Western Hemisphere as "The Americas", they would be correct. If one were to refer to the northern continent as "North America" they would also be correct. However to use the singular "America" means "The United States of America". Why?

Because we are the only Goddamned country in the world with "America" in the name. "The United States of America." The singular. The only one. No other fucking country. And no, this is not Amero-centric. Its the way the English fucking language works.

Edit cause there's more.

One uses American to denote a citizen of the United States. Canadian for Canada, Mexican for Mexican, Cuban, Jamacain, Barbadian, Columbian, Brazilian, Peruvian, Honduran, etc.

Do you call Russians Asians?

Do you call a Paki an Asian?

Do you call and Indian Asian?

Are Mexicans American?

Fuck no. Americans is used for people in the US. Continental names doesn't apply to cultural names.

That was awesome, I can't believe I watched a whole wrestling match.

Heh, check out Chikara. Slow-motion matches, a wrestling ant colony, a guy who came forward in time twice so he could be a tag-team with himself, Dave Coulier as the boss of the company...

After watching that...

Yeah, she does seem like a clever girl.

Well, unless that thing wasn't actually choreographed, in which case, WTF?

Wow that guy is really really good. I never realized how the stunt moves were orchestrated, but he was able to reproduce some of the fight moves entirely by himself.

[–]BarelyReal 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Moves seem to be about 50-50 most of he time, which is where a lot of the training for wrestling comes from(along with how to take a fall, make it look brutal, and be fine). Typically people only see people on TV who have that stuff down, so people don't pick up on how much effort and precision goes into basic stuff.

Wrestling. The only art where you have to be really good just to look bad, and absolutely phenomenal to look better.

[–]kyledouglas521 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Then why do the punches always look so terrible?

[–]BarelyReal 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There are only a hand full of people who can do a punch well(Jerry Lawler), and technically punches are "illegal" in a match but that rule is forgotten and you have people throwing really crappy punches. Mick Foley, in his first book, came right out and said unless you can "work" a punch well you shouldn't bother.

The term for actually hitting and not pulling back is "stiff", which the Japanese and young wrestlers tend to do. The Japanese are pretty crazy about this, and you really see it when a veteran is with a rookie. They don't tolerate mistakes and try to beat humility and respect in lest a rookie fuck up or put them both in danger. A lot of younger wrestlers lately have switched to using more kicks with the benefit of kickpads. You can see the impact, hear it, and overall looks better than a punch.

[–]stfnotguilty 0 points1 point ago

Japanese pro wrestling: People hitting each other harder than most people would in a real fight, with the full permission of the other guy.

In conclusion, MUTOH ICHIBAN.

And that isn't even the strangest thing Kenny Omega has been involved in.

One time he got an entire crowd to sing John Jacob Jingleheimer Shmidt to distract his opponent.
