They're not that rare, but they do have health problems. It's mostly associated with being deaf. But it's common to find hearing problems in animals with albinism in their genetics. So yeah, like any dog they've been inbred to shit, but they're not disasters. My dog was a Dalmatian, her name was Pearl. She would have turned 16 this past September, but she was put down in April. In all honesty she would probably still be alive, but she was mostly blind, deaf, had arthritis and was incontinent. But she still had days that she ran around like a puppy. She lived with my mom in California and I flew down to be there for the euthanasia. She was a great dog. She never really got sick, but had a pretty extensive history of ear infections. She was paranoid, but I blame that on our inexperience as dog owners. She was sweet as hell and would love you forever if you gave her a treat. Beggus Maximus. Only later did I learn that Dalmatian fur has a little barb at its follicle that makes it particularly hard to remove from your [black] clothing. I kind of remember something about being prone to bladder infections, but I didn't have that experience with my dog, so I'm not sure if I'm remembering that correctly. A lot of people will say Dalmatians are hyper and stupid, but I think any dog runs that risk; it depends on upbringing. Mine was kind of fucking stupid sometimes, but I have only myself and my family to blame. I was 9, what did I know about raising a dog? I'm sure the inbreeding didn't help her odds. She was the sweetest dumb dog you could hope to meet. I remember one night she stood on my bed and whined for ten minutes before I realised she was afraid to jump down in the dark. I turned on my nightlight (read: lava lamp) and she jumped down immediately, walked out of the room and went and ate some food.
