I don't consider stupid Jesus jokes to be hate speech. Race, sexual orientation, and gender are core biological elements one cannot change. (with the exception to gender) Religion is more of something one subscribes to and lives their lives by, a philosophy really. Is it a hate crime for me to say "nihilism is stupid and people who follow it are overly cynical to the point of hilarity"? It's no more of a hate crime to make a stupid image macro than it is to make a stupid joke about men refusing to stop for directions or women harping on unimportant details. Most of us don't hate christians. Most of us recognize the good many religious organizations do in the world. However this subreddit exists as a place where people can speak their mind freely about religion and their lack of it and if its overly negative then you might want to consider what that says about the amount of religious strife going on in America and the rest of the world.

Keep in mind you have the option to unsubscribe from r/atheism and never have it hit your front page again. The reason you're subscribed to it now is that it hit a certain amount of subscribers that it became big enough to automatically hit the front. Thats what I'd do if r/christianity hit the fron or r/Islam and I wouldn't go in their threads and on their forum to bitch about them being there in the first place.

r/christianity is a different place with a more reverent atmosphere. Here nothing is sacred so you have to expect more jokes, gag posts, and macros. That being said there are quite a few self posts every week about personal experiences and some made by christians wanting discussion. Every now and then we get news items (frequently American politics) and there's discussion centered around that.

The reason those porn sub reddits aren't on the front page is due to content. Reddit maintains itself as a PG 13 website and to go to the porn parts you have to click a box verifying you are over 18 years of age. It's not that hard to see why reddit legally can't make those subreddits default (unless they want the whole site to become 18 years old and up).

The religious have a platform for exposure though. No one is blocking r/christianity or r/Islam. A quick search will lead you directly to them. The reason they aren't up on the front is they don't have as much subscribers. If you want to see them up then go subscribe to them yourself an boost their numbers. Recruit people to those subreddits if you want. Putting the most popular religion on the front page in response to atheism on the front page is hardly fair to the other religions though and isnt in the spirit of equality that you say it is. You're making mountains out of molehills.

Reddit is an open user website and lets the members choose what they want to see. Censoring one board that got to the front fairly because some peoples sensitivities can't handle it would be the exact opposite of what this website is about. If you hate this subreddit then click one red bar on the right sidebar and you wont have to deal with it ever again.

One last note why are you complaining to me about this. I can't do anything about it even I wanted to. Go complain to the company. There's a contact button on the bottom of the page under "about." Go take your bitching to them.
