Should The Joker be in Batman 3? Reply with your arguments either way. Here's my perspective. Now, the other day on IMDb, I saw that it had been confirmed by Nolan in late May that The Joker would not return (no Penguin or Mr. Freeze either). However, I have my doubts. We all know how many rumors have been circulating aroun the internet about this film. There have probably been a dozen or more times that I have heard from "reliable" sources that Nolan has confirmed one thing or another. Each time, it turns out to be false. So at this point, I don't trust anything unless I hear it from Nolan personally. With that said, unless someone on this board possesses indesputable proof that Nolan confirmed this (please post where I can find it if you do), then The Joker may very well be in Batman 3. Either way, I would like to hear arguments whether he should or should not be in the movie. I say yes, the Joker should be in Batman 3. I say this for several reasons. The first is that I believe the Joker is the best Batman villain of all time, and if I'm not mistaken, I'm in the majority on that. The Joker is just the perfect psychological match for Batman. Second, I think it is obvious that, when Mr. Ledger was still alive, Nolan had every intention of puting The Joker in Batman 3. There was that glaring fact that The Joker DID NOT DIE at the end of The Dark Knight (I once heard a rumor that Nolan had confirmed that Batman 3 was shot along with TDK before Ledger's death...NO; it was just a rumor). In Batman (1989), they killed off the Joker because his part in the story was done. Clearly, Nolan was not finished with him after TDK. They never explained who he was, where he came from, what happened with the scars, they just left so much unanswered. Now, granted, knowing almost nothing about him does make him more frightening (I did not care so much for Joker's backstory in Batman (1989)). However, I don't think they used things like that to the fullest extent in developing the Joker's character. Also, it just seems like The Joker whould want to do so much more. True, he did turn Harvey to the dark side, but he did fail to prove in the end that everyone in the city was like him deep down. Also, after Batman and Gordon's coverup, he could really never be sure that the truth about Harvey would ever get out. As such, he would certainly return to prove that the city and its people were truly evil. He could do this through Riddler, Black Mask, Catwoman, Penguin, or any of the other villains. Any one of them could be his instrument for Batman 3. Third, if the Joker is scarcely metioned in Batman 3 and is left alive after the end of the film, than that can't possibly be the end of the story. I am pretty sure that this will be Nolan's conclusion the Batman. However, as long as The Joker is alive, there can be no conclusion. It's like he said in TDK, "I think you an I are destined to do this forever." On the other hand, if the Joker is, let's say, killed in prison or something of that nature off camera, what kind of end would that be. The Joker would never go down like that. When every other villain surenders, he's the one that would go out with a bang, that's just the way he is. He doesn't care for his own life, as long as he takes multitudes of others with him. In short, he should not be left alive, and the only way to kill him off is with something big, bigger even than anything that happened in TDK. I realize that many fans of Heath Ledger say The Joker shouldn't brought back because no one could play him like Ledger did. Well, you're right. I think Ledger could never ever be equalled for that part. That doesn't mean I think he is irreplacable. If they got a young actor, made him look somewhat like Ledger, and if he was someone who was a talneted impersonator, then it could all very easily work out. I don't think Ledger would have wanted everyone to give up and let his work go unfinished. So, that's my point of view. Whether you agree or disagree, I'd love to hear your opinions and arguments on the subject.
