Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  6. No animated images. Please submit them to /r/gif, /r/gifs, or /r/reactiongifs instead.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

They might. But there might be another reason, like maybe a fellow soldier fell, and they couldn't officially name the dog after them, so they used the person's initials. There is also a TAM listed, which could also be initials.

So I suppose you're trying to imply that, since dogs cannot be patriots, they shouldn't be honored?

Or that, since they only feel real emotions, they can't possibly be feeling what humans feel?

Either way, I call bullshit on that. Service dogs deserve proper respect, since they die for OUR wars (or, more precisely, the american wars).

Dogs have made terrible sacrifices in war, especially the Russian dogs of WW2 and the war dogs of Ancient Rome, but I think animal that has suffered the most in human wars would have to be horses. Sure horses don't have the same intellectual or emotional capacity as dogs, but I think one can ascertain that very few animals have been through worse trauma than horses of war.

Training a horse to ride into combat is extremely difficult because they are herbivores and their primary defense mechanism is to flee, and once you do get them into combat most of them will probably have to be put down after their first battle. And then there's all the horses that have been pulling wagons and cannons across Europe throughout the millennia, even the Third Reich transported most of it's supplies by horse, rather than trucks. These horses were almost always poorly fed and they were expected just to march until they died.

Don't mean to shit on this thread, I'm just hoping somebody makes a similar post for horses. I think they do have a few monuments for horses... (aside from the hundreds of monuments with mounted warriors)
