Seriously, my senior year of college was full time student teaching plus a class and 7 lectures a year for the last semester. The First semester was 15 hours a week of work in classrooms plus 3 classes. And the classes had 100 page presentations analyzing student work and crap due 2 times in a semester on top off lesson planning and all the other little papers. There wasn't time to blow off school if I wanted to pass (let alone get an A)

if you are a major outside the hard sciences, a lot of classes, papers and such are about how well you can argue a point, not how many facts you know. It's easy to write a paper about one of Shakespeare's history plays (like Richard II), pull a few quotes, talk about history and the culture of the time period to support your BS hypothesis and call it a day. not a great paper, but easy B if you support everything well. meanwhile some other dude is sitting for his thermodynamics test and he's sol if he can't solve that differential equation. he can't just decide to look at it through a historical lens and talk the first law of thermodynamics, there is an equation to solve and one right answer.
