Mohandas Gandhi took dancing lessons while going to school in England. The terrible vegetarian food cooked by his landlord led him to join the new "Vegetarian Society." These meetings happened to be frequented by members of the "Theosophical Society" who ended up piquing a serious interest in religion for the first time.

It is interesting to think about Gandhi going to London to find religion considering where he came from and what he would later go on to do. What would have happened if he'd never gone to college in London? How would India/Pakistan be different? How would the British Empire have been different? So many great questions about a very great man.

On 4 September 1888, Gandhi travelled to London, England, to study law at University College London where he studied Indian law and jurisprudence[1] and to train as a barrister at the Inner Temple.[13] His time in London, the Imperial capital, was influenced by a vow he had made to his mother in the presence of the Jain monk Becharji, upon leaving India, to observe the Hindu precepts of abstinence from meat, alcohol, and promiscuity.[14] Although Gandhi experimented with adopting "English" customs—taking dancing lessons for example—he could not stomach the bland vegetarian food offered by his landlady, and he was always hungry until he found one of London's few vegetarian restaurants.
