Death is nothing (imgur.com)

Epicurus was the baws.
[–]Hostilian -1 points0 points1 point 10 months ago
This is why, when people ask me what I believe in, I respond, "Epicurus said some things I agree with."
Also, "Epicureanism" is a religion on Facebook. That's a bit like saying "Marcus Aurelius" is a religion, but whatever.

Fucking love the Diablo text.
[–]mr0nine2five 1 point2 points3 points 10 months ago
Me too. I was wondering who else would notice that.
[–]TheAtheistEnglishman 3 points4 points5 points 10 months ago
True
pretty good quote
and the picture is awesome as well :P
[–]natty_dread 3 points4 points5 points 10 months ago
this is a quote by Socrates, not Epicurus. Socrates says this sentence to Plato prior to his execution while being imprisoned in Athens.
it is a part of "The Apology (The Defense of Socrates)" in" Great Dialogues of Plato".
just sayin'....

Ohhh noooo is this true? I wanted this to be my desktop background, but alas it cannot be if it is false.

Epicurus, from Diogenes Laertius, Lives of Eminent Philosophers Greek philosopher (341 BC - 270 BC)
I found this citation for the OP's quote. Is this not correct?
/need more info..want to read.

Original picture: http://www.bergting.com/wp-content/gallery/gallery/Winter.jpg
Swedish artist Peter Bergting drew this aaaaaages ago (which is why I caught it, big fan and collector of his original art).
His homepage in English: http://www.bergting.com/english/
[–]Kiziaru 0 points1 point2 points 10 months ago
Thanks for the link but why is the picture in your link so much smaller than the OP's?
[–]TheChronographer 1 point2 points3 points 10 months ago
Powerful quote. The art is really awesome. Where did you get it/who made it?
I searched online but could only find smaller versions.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 months ago
yeah, what picture is this? who draw this?

Wicked! Love it. It shall be my background!
No trick dispels. Religion used to try, That vast, moth-eaten musical brocade Created to pretend we never die, And specious stuff that says No rational being Can fear a thing it will not feel, not seeing That this is what we fear - no sight, no sound, No touch or taste or smell, nothing to think with, Nothing to love or link with, The anasthetic from which none come round.
Aubade, Philip Larkin

Oh look, my new desktop background, thanks.

I don't fear death. I do, however, fear the transition between life and death, because it might hurt like fuck.
[–]tuscanspeed -1 points0 points1 point 10 months ago
While it only took a second to die. To him, the pain was so excruciating that it would have felt like a thousand years.
I hope I got that right.
[–]Yeti60 0 points1 point2 points 10 months ago
Damn... that is a bad-ass quote. I've never seen that thought process verbalized, though I have thought it before, but that makes a lot of sense and is so eloquently worded. That's OP.
[–]DEATH__HIMSELF 0 points1 point2 points 10 months ago
