A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports). "Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

"Generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission.

If ever there was an under-appreciated game that deserves a sequel, this is it.

[–]ToraZalinto 12 points13 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I wouldn't say a sequel but rather a remastering. The game's story ended just fine and I'd love to have an HD re-release. The game's not as expansive (in terms of locales) as a lot of RPG's at the time so it wouldn't be as costly to create as say FFVII HD.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

A remastering that is simply for voice and graphics work. Maintain the story, the battle system and all of the events. They can certainly add in more content if they wish, but I would not want some studio fucking with any of the integral elements of this game.

[–]ToraZalinto 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Of course. Just a graphics/voice upgrade and we're golden. Everything else should stay the same really.

[–]Torikan 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

But why the added voice acting? I miss being able to use my imagination to create the voice I wanted.

[–]ToraZalinto 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Sometimes the voices aren't what we'd envision but, if done well, it's better than text.

[–]Torikan 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I wish I agreed with you, friend. There's just something about reading the text and listening to the soundtrack I enjoyed. I'm going back and replaying my childhood favorites now so maybe I'm currently biased.

Have they been making a bunch of ps1 RPGs over the last 10 years that have been competing? :s

[–]BlazenLumenaze[S] -3 points-2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No, but I could only got new games very rarely 10 years ago. I ended up missing out on most of the greats. I have been catching up over the past few years through PSN, Play N Trade, and emulators.

My personal favorite from PS1 had to be Suikoden, by far. Unfortunately I never played Legend of Dragoon

[–]Jewbaka 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Suikoden was the best of all, legend was a very close second

[–]manymoose 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Even more than Suikoden II?

[–]Daviz0 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I really like Star Ocean 2. man the ps1 had so many good rpg's. I spent a ridiculous amount of hours on Suikoden, Vandal Hearts, Wild Hearts, Final fantasy, Vagrant Story & Alundra!.

[–]jmls10thfloor 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

SO2 was ridiculously good. I can't calculate how many hours i put into that dam game.

[–]Daviz0 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

agreed, soo good. SO3 got a bit silly with story but the Arena was so much fun, also the final people you fight in that arena took me an insane amount of time to defeat.

[–]RomansRedditAcc 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

SO3 didn't have a silly story, it had the worst writing I have ever seen in a game. It could have been good though with some game play tweaks and someone to proof read.

[–]tairygreene 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I listen to the Suikoden 1 soundtrack on loop while playing mount and blade warband

[–]PeoplesInstinctives 1 point2 points ago

One of my favorite soundtracks ever. That eternal flow song...amazing, and just one of many awesome tracks.

[–]fizz4m 0 points1 point ago

Duel Saga was bad? I still have it but have never played it. Too many damn games in my backlog. Just finished Beyond the Beyond.

[–]Fa1nT 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No it's not bad. It's much more deep than Legend of Legaia.

People just hate on it the same reason they hate FFX-2, the story is meh.

[–]nolfclvr 6 points7 points ago

They were called additions.

[–]rabidassbaboon 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Basically, my favorite PS1-era RPG is all of them. Recently I've been playing nothing but PS1 JRPGs to catch up on some that I missed at the time and I've decided that they just don't make them like that anymore. Those really were the golden years.

[–]BlazenLumenaze[S] 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Some other good, but rare ones are the Lunar games, and Grandia.

[–]JayJay729 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Oh man! Lunar and Grandia. Those were some beautiful games. Ever play Dragno Force for Sega Saturn? I think it is my favorite game of all time.

[–]BlazenLumenaze[S] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I never had a Saturn. I could also never get an emulator to run properly. This is annoying because even if I some how do get the system now, there's no way I could get a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga :(

[–]JayJay729 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There are quite a few gems on the system. I always liked Working Designs (defunct video game publisher). They put out games like Magic Knight Rayearth, Albert Odyssey, Alundra, Dragon Force, Lunar, and a few others. I cannot believe they went under. I guess the JRPGs don't really sell a bunch here in the US. So unfortunate.

[–]rabidassbaboon -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah I really wanna give the Lunar games a shot. At the moment I'm playing Legend of Mana and I'm blow away that missed it when it came out.

[–]Atifex 4 points5 points ago

Love you OP. I know next to NO ONE who knows this game. It makes me sad when i get blank stares.

I still have my copy of the 4 discs in pristine condition. Only thing I own that I freak out over if its misplaced.

Why do gaming companies refuse to remake/make sequels to the solid games, (Legend of Legaia, Legend of dragoon, ff7) and instead choose to make new, terrible IP's, and terrible sequels (ff10-2, 13-2)?? It seems like such a no brainer. Every one of my friends who barley even game anymore would instantly purchase whatever system this remake/sequel was on just to play it.

[–]Fat_Ladette 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Legend of Legaia has a sequel on PS2 called Legaia 2: Duel Saga. No where near as good a game as Legend but still worth a run through.

[–]bigwithdraw 0 points1 point ago

[–]Zalitara 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

My favorite I can't even remember the name to, I was so young and I never could beat it because it confused the living hell out of me. It started out with some guy in a castle or something and he would have flashbacks of this chick sometimes and the weapon system was a nightmare. It's my favorite because I lost it and could never finish it, it stands as "the one that got away".

I remember the nearby Walmart (or was it Target?) always had this and Dynasty Warriors to demo for a year. I wanted Legend of Dragoon so bad that I saved my allowance to buy it. Best choice ever. Dragon-themed fantasy warrior RPG? Add in some collectible monsters and a ninja or two and you have a melting pot of all my childhood themes.

Why would your favorite PS1 RPG change just because it has been 10 years? It is not like many epic RPGs have been released on the PS1 this year. Maybe if it was your favorite RPG, but it's not that bold of a statement otherwise.

[–]BlazenLumenaze[S] 0 points1 point ago

[–]Stythe 0 points1 point ago

I never really saw what was so good about it. I played it and thought there was a lot of col aspects but they didn't work as a whole. Something about it just seemed contrived. I also remember finding it super cliche. More so than most JRPG's.

I have tried to play it so many times. Gotten a little ways in (through the prison and out a bit) but always the oldness of it falls into my lap. I pray they remake this game, as I've loved every Squaresoft game on the PS1 nearly (from the common FF7-9 and Chrono Cross, to Brave Fencer Musashi, Vagrant Story, and Front Mission 3), but this one game eludes my love due to it feeling straight up awkward to play.

I remember when it came out. LoD brought out people in my area that weren't even gamers, and if they were they preferred shooters and racing games. We all used to talk about what happened the night before and the crazy things we pulled off in the game ( I remember Albert's one combo being really hard for all of us to pull off to the end. )

Now I'm going to go and drag it out so I can play it again!

You say "still" like they're still making PS1 RPGs that might change your mind. lolwut

The only problem I had with this game is that by the end of it the dragoon transformations were quite useless. Regular attacks would deal even more damage than the divine dragoon's strongest magic...

Why would your favorite PS1 RPG change over 10 years? Damn, all those new PS1 releases are sure contenders to the throne of the coveted of the BlazenLumenaze's best-PS1-RPG-I'm-not-a-hiper-I-swear spot.

No, but your opinion can change. You can become disillusioned, you could discover a new game you hadn't played before, your opinion could be recontextualized by newer games you played, etc. My favorite GBA game keeps changing over time.

You know, I just couldn't get into Legend of Dragoon. I think mine was Breath of Fire III.
