Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Weight loss photos go in /r/loseit, DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

So at some point the life turns from a "fertilized egg life" to a "human life"? No, factually it is a human life at the point of conception. It cannot be any other type of life, sure it requires time to mature and not die, but so does a baby.

That being said I'm not really against abortion, it's the parents' job to protect their children, not mine. If you want to kill your baby go for it.

respectfully disagree. If you put yeast in grape juice it doesn't make it wine, however over the course of time it becomes wine just how a fertilized egg take time becomes a human being.

That is not a proper analogy. Firstly there's a lot more to making wine than putting yeast in wine. Mainly I'd define wine by its ability to get us shit faced (and have some grapey juice in it). If you put grain alcohol in grape juice i'd call that shit wine.

However we're dealing with a more fundamental definition of life. The question remains it's a life and what species does it belong to if not human? A creature cannot change species over time, it is factually a human life.

there is a lot more than a sperm fertilizing an egg to make a human :D p.s. hops and corn don't just make grain alcohol there is more that goes into it lawlz p.p.s we aren't dealing with the definition of life, it's the definition of a person (as the picture states) BUT I'm done arguing on the internet me, downvote me to oblivion for all I care!!

You undermine your own argument very nicely with that statement, if the process is part of the difference and pregnancy is part of the process then a fertilized egg is not a human being anymore than grape juice and yeast are wine.

No, I did not logically undermine anything, stop thinking you're smarter than you are. If you'll notice my argument has ALWAYS hinged on the fact that the zygote is A) factually living and B) factually a human zygote. Therefore it is a human life.

The point about the wine making was really an aside of "you're giving little credit to winemakers". Additionally the functional definition of wine was not sustained by his analogy. I gave him an alternative.

If anyone is thinking they are smarter than they actually are it's you.

First off, you are starting from a fallacy and are bound to fail from there on. When you falsely give a fertilized egg full human status, which it clearly is not, you invalidate the rest of your arguments.

Second a FERTILIZED EGG is certainly potentially capable of becoming a human being but it will not be such for many months barring problems, in just exactly the same way as grape juice inoculated with yeast is "potentially capable" of becoming wine in many months, again, barring problems.

The fact that you somehow cannot see that those two potentials are exactly that, potentials, and are insisting that the fertilized egg is a human and the yeasty grape juice is not wine shows that you are actually incapable of logic OR reason.

The average fertilized human egg only has about a 20 to 25% chance of becoming a human being.

To make all the natural miscarriages that already occur into murders just to satisfy some idiot religious demands is beyond stupid.

To effectively ban 90% of the forms of birth control just to satisfy some idiot religious demands is beyond stupid and yes, some versions of the birth control pill work by preventing implantation.

The difference between that fertilized egg and a baby is a NINE MONTH PROCESS during which many many things can go wrong naturally, and often do. To turn all of those natural occurrences into murder charges just to satisfy some idiot religious demands is beyond stupid.

To pretend that the nine month process has nothing to do with the difference between an egg and a baby just shows how completely deluded you actually are.

Go force your religious beliefs on your family, no one else has to put up with that crap.

I am not religious, I am perfectly agnostic. I was not born christian, nor will I be, I am Canadian too. The fact that you assume I'm religious, or anything to do with that shows that YOU are deluded, sir. In fact, many of my arguments are paraphrased from christopher hitchens, who is as an advocate of an atheist as anyone on the planet. They are logical. You're brainwashed by the liberal media, like most people on reddit, and you just attack religion despite it having no bearing here.

edit: i'd like to point out if you were capable of reading you would notice that i said that I was for abortion (or not really against it, rather).

Also you can (in canada) legally abort fetuses which have the possibility of surviving (with proper assistance), it's a small chance, i think 15% in the last legal week, but regardless a disgusting disgusting possibility.
