As silly as it sounds, you also have to consider that you're used to the cold by the time spring comes around again. EX: My friend lived in Alaska for a few years. Once she was used to the climate, 50 degrees outside meant she was laying out in a bikini tanning.

Spending all winter in the cold, 45 degrees feels warm as heck, especially with the sun out. Alternatively, spending the whole summer in 80+ degree weather, out at a pool somewhere, 45 like a frost brewed super cold activated coors light.

In Canada, there's also a short and completely schizo window where you'll see, say, three people at a bus stop in parkas, one in a hoodie and some dude in cut-offs and a Tap-Out t-shirt. It lasts for about two weeks in early spring.

In school they never let us run around without coats on in the fall. Every time we went to recess we had to wear something bundling us up and completely inhibiting our play style. But in March/April, the same temperature, we could run around with the exact depiction from the bottom photo and not get in trouble.

My mom pointed out a woman walking with (presumably) a shirt, sweater, sweatshirt, jacket, and scarf in Southern California yesterday.

It was probably 60-70 degrees out.

She also felt like pointing out we weren't in New York.

My wife does this. It hits 55 degrees and it's winter coats and hats for the kids. When spring rolls around it will be shorts and sandals. I don't get it.

i find the in the spring the sun is a lot more intense so you can go out in less clothes while in the fall its usually a cold northerly wind and overcast

So true! It's because we acclimatise to the cold during the wintertime, so as soon as a bit of warmth comes in the spring, it feels like summer. Right now however, we aren't used to the chill so it feels like the Arctic.

It is called acclimation and is completely natural. It is why in the fall I wear a pair of sweat pants under my jeans and three shirts when it is 50 degrees outside or why Inuits can wear shorts and tank tops whilst lounging in yard furniture on a warm 35 degree day.

Anyway, it is a biological function that sort of serves a purpose.

I don't bundle up for 45 degrees F, no matter what time of year it is. I wear a coat when water freezes.

Well yeah, at the end of autumn, you've just gone through warm/hot weather, so your body is acclimated to it being warmer so 45 is cold. The flip side is after going through the child winter, 45 is warm.
