I love the way that they feel there is a need for more than the heavily amoured vehicle spraying heavy machine gun fire into the flimsy bus.
TBH, if there's anything alive in that bus after it comes to a halt, then explosives of any sort aren't going to be much help. You're going to need a Dalek or a Cyberman to deal with anything walking out of that.

it looks like the "magic stick" is actually a gigantic flash bang. if you watch closely you can see the guy that actually hits the bus with it is thrown slightly forward, and gets up almost instantly and is apparently fine. i think it just incapacitated the people in the bus for a short while (while probably causing some blunt force trauma) and destroying the bus. I'm not expert on the matter, but replaying the video a few times makes this seem like the most plausible explanation.

What do you really know about Spetnaz and what do you even know about Beslan? Fucking nothing I say. You only know what the Western Media serves in your face. The whole gym was trapped with explosives, and surrounded by terorists. 100% hostage survival was impossible. Most of those men who died were covering grenades with their bodies so that children could survive. It was a dead end situation from the start. The whole raid was planed to minimise casualties.
Moscow Theatre: At the time of the raid by Spetsnaz - 0 hostage casualties. Most terrorists were unconcious, they were shot in the head, because they were booty-trapped. Those hostages died not because of Spetsnaz mistake, but because of bad treatment (most of them while unconcious were taken out in hurry and put on their back witch caused tongue swallowing)
So you can't say if SWAT would do better than Spetsnaz because SWAT is dealing with armed hilbillies and not with real terrorists. Set your shit straight before judging.

I remember reading they were doing some sort of training exercise or some competition. Some gas filled the bus that shouldn't have, and when the guy running used that thing to break the window, the change in pressure cause the gas to explode. I read this on reddit and I'm no pnuematicist so take it with a shaker of salt. Either that or it was a Russian training exercise where they use real explosives.

I had a friend years ago that used to lodge between the floor and the bottom of the seat cushion a fairly nasty knife whenever he left his car (always unlocked).
