It was worth watching just to see Clyde Frog's funeral.

Had this episode not had all the OWS undertones, I think that could've made for a great episode. Just Cartman having to grow the fuck up.

They already had that episode, it was the one about the dog whisperer.

Wasn't really him growing up. It was more teaching his mom how to control her kid. Too bad she made him regress.

Why, because they poked fun at something you like?

[–]dmcnelly 1 point2 points ago

No, I just think that aspect was poorly thought out and poorly executed.

I think there was so much ground to cover (so much to make fun of) it was hard to go into any depth... but I'd prefer that to sticking to one point for the whole episode.

Also, I think this is one episode where you really couldn't tell who they were making fun of at all times. Sometimes Matt and Trey's stance on stuff is pretty clear, but they just seemed to spread it all around in this episode. But to be honest, I think that's a fair representation of what's going on in real life. It's no one person or groups' fault, but rather a complex issue where many poor decisions resulted in a giant cluster fuck.

I really enjoyed the episode as a whole.

Michael Moore got it pretty bad in this one haha.

Oh, they got him a lot worse in Team America ;)

Not really. They just showed him saying "We are the 99%" into a megaphone, and depicted him as a fat fuck, which he is. That's not exactly what I'd call brilliant satire.

I think they were also making fun of the fact that anytime there is a significant movement, Michael Moore shows up and yells like he started it.

I also really enjoyed the episode. At first I was scared that they were going to just strongly stand behind one side or the other on the whole OWS thing (which would've been lame), but they just made fun of the entire idea of it, and the participants on both sides, even the neutral parties (cops, news media, etc.).

All these naysayers saying that South Park hasn't been up to par this year are just wrong. You're entitled to your own opinion, but just know that it's wrong.

Cops tear gas crowds and we have people downvoting you for calling them not-neutral. What a bunch of douches.

EDIT: That's better.

Did anyone else catch the Dexter reference?

[–]couldbeglorious 7 points8 points ago

The trip wire?

[–]MRGLU 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

oo yeah. tough to tell if that's a reference or just a similar story device. coincidental for sure.

[–]dime00 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It seemed too specific to be coincidental. If someone can tell me other shows which have had murder scenes where the victim is tied up like an angel and the person trying to save her triggers the death via tripwire, I'll happily accept coincidence.

[–]boydrewboy 8 points9 points ago

Saw.

[–]dime00 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I saw the first 3 Saws, am I forgetting something or did it occur in a subsequent Saw?

[–]boydrewboy 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If I'm not mistaken, Saw 4 had a reverse angel mechanism, where the victim's ribs were pulled out via a device inside her chest. As for the tripwire, I'm sure that was in there somewhere. Either way, just because it happened in one show doesn't mean it was necessarily pulled from it and 2 forms of media showing something similar doesn't prove coincidence either.

If the creators were aiming for Dexter, don't you think they would have gone a bit further in depth? Maybe have Cartman dump the bodies in a nearby lake? Or he could have his entire room covered in plastic as he attacks another stuffed animal. Or he could have found one of his animals' hands in a block of ice. Gruesome murders aren't a reference to anything without further connections. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

[–]creat0r86 1 point2 points ago

SPOILER ALERT for SAW IV

The tripwire was Saw 4 if I'm not mistaken, when the black cop bursts into the room with the three guys, one standing on an iceblock, one in a puddle with an electrocuted fence and the guy holding the bomb.

I thought it was a Dexter reference until her head blew up. After that, it was too different from the Dexter one.

[–]rhinofinger 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I mean, it was a stuffed animal, and it's a cartoon. It wouldn't make too much sense to be identical. I think they probably got the idea from Dexter though, they do make the episodes 6 days before they air...

Anyone catch the L.A. Noir game reference? It was the little melody that was played every time Cartman went looking for clues.

[–]inmate2 2 points3 points ago

It's always brilliant.

I don't know, I think it's fine that the Occupy part was on the silly side. The main cast wasn't involved at all; they gave us Jimmy and Butters standing around by themselves, surrounded by people doing nothing, and I think the creators are perfectly aware that that's not an interesting combo.

It's light filler, because the main cast's presence in the part about Cartman suggests strongly that that is meant to be the focal point. I mean, we rarely get to go that far into his self-deceit and see the measures he'll go to in order to avoid admitting that deep down, he is profoundly sad.

Don't forget, they could easily have left it at "Dude. What the hell," but Kyle does Cartman the kindness of explaining what had just happened: Eric, on a level he could probably never admit, wants so badly to be liked, to fit in, that having the kids tell him to "grow up" was enough to make him literally and figuratively kill a part of himself he needed to outgrow. He could only do so when he felt he had no choice (he is a master of self-deceit, of course; he created the entire scenario so he could believe she forced his hand), and only with great sadness, but on some subconscious level, I think he realizes it was necessary. A sociopath is still a sociopath, but we'll see if his behaviour does genuinely change in the slightest. Now that'd be interesting.

Coming off of last week's brilliant and drum-tight episode made this one seem even sloppier than it was.
It wasn't terrible, but the strength of the episode was lacking.

[–]Cpt_Hockeyhair 17 points18 points ago

Now see, I didn't really like last week's episode that much. I still think the high point for this half of the season has to be The Last of the Meheecans.

[–]dancingthemantaray 7 points8 points ago

I'm so glad you said that. I didn't think last week's episode was strong at all. I don't know what it is about it. The blowjob jokes just got old for me after the first scene.

[–]RisingDamp 5 points6 points ago

It was obvious satire. A main point was how the police intervention causes more problems than the protest itself.

[–]numb_doors 5 points6 points ago

and how the 99% can't complain about the president they elected because 'black people can't do wrong' so instead they protest the 1% :P

Too big to fail? Fuck that.

Yeah it seemed all over the place. The episode should have been a lot tighter with the 99% stuff.
