Hey guys!

Can you please let me know if you're seeing improvements and/or what problems you're seeing

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF DINOSAURS UPVOTE INSTEAD OF REPOSTING

If everyone posts replies it floods and in turn breaks my inbox. :)

I'm getting ZERO change in the rubber banding issue. Still happening every 5-10 seconds. Game is playable, but not enjoyable to play like this at all. Really destroys all the immersion not to mention my sanity.

While playing caspian CQ on 360, I was having green flashing on my screen.

Tehran is still rubber banding.

The French infantry map (sorry can't think of name) was having some stuttering and jittering. Not exactly like rubber banding. It was more twitchy.

I've experienced a lot more 'BF3.exe has stopped working' errors on Win7 64bit SP1. When I quit a server, then join a new one after a minute or two I get the Bf3.exe crash

I saw improvement for rubber banding on every map except........ Tehran Highway its such a wonderful map but the rubber banding is terrible I have tried 7 servers and none of them rubber banded on other maps.

Up until yesterday i had barely any rubber banding. NOW i can't even play the game, i can barely move or switch weapons. Happens on every single map. Even squad rush with 8 players the rubber banding is insane.

Changelog as per http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/news/view/2832654774182727981/

  • Fix for crashes usually occurring during level switches. Server providers may see a little bit of memory leakage instead in this situation

  • Game servers should no longer quit in some situations where the online backend servers are down. Server will reconnect to the backend once it's up again

  • Fix for ghost servers which didn't accept connections

  • Kick reasons should better match situations where they are issued. This will help battlelog provide more accurate information to the player

  • Connection fixes to avoid players sometimes being rejected while joining the game server on one of the last slots

  • Security updates

  • Improved server logging

No mention of anything like rubber-banding

Server optimization always contributes to fixing server-side problems encountered in-game like rubber-banding, it's like saying fixing the netcode makes the game lag less, it's sort of a given.

[–]Ragarnok 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Rubber banding and lag aren't the same thing, moreover fixing server-side problem could be things like CPU load, memory usage etc... BF3 take a lot of resources server-wise and fixing those may or may not have an impact on rubber-banding but could for example reduce the CPU load of a BF3 server on a rack

[–]FuzzeWuzze 1 point2 points ago

I play on plenty of servers without rubber banding issues...

But i know a few that always do it...

Therefore i can only conclude that some of these servers are underpowered for the amount of slots they are hosting.

[–]philodoxOmoplatypus 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think you are correct about this. A lot of it comes down to the server provider and how many other servers they are hosting on the same hardware. We previously had a BC2 server with another company and it rubberbanded ALL the time, even after requesting server changes. Just started BF3 server with a new company and it has been 100% flawless.

[–]KamikazeSexPilot 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've tried numerous servers and since my rubber banding problems started yesterday every single server is doing it. Although it seems it isn't affecting any of the other players in the server.

Except they are fixing server-side memory leaks, not rubber-banding.

So, yeah.

[–]merlinm 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

well, a memory leak could lead to rubber banding maybe? (server gets progressively slower, etc)

[–]Chunq 1 point2 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I thought the announcement said the server-side memory leaks are the side effect of fixing the rubber banding.

edit: Never mind, the title of this post is misleading. They didn't say anything about fixing memory leaks either though, rather servers may be experiencing more memory leaks.

[–]crash7800BF3 Community Manager 1 point2 points ago

We're fixing a few things. More than just one event happening at a time here.

[–]midwestgator 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Thanks for the update crash. Can you confirm that rubberbanding is a priority? It seems to be the most painful thing at this point.

Is there anything we can do to help pinpoint the problem? Like start accumulating battelogs with an approximate idea of when we believe the rubberbanding happened?

[–]crash7800BF3 Community Manager 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Definitely is.

If you guys talk about it, we'l keep track of it.

I think there may be a thread in the forums

[–]OuHiroshi 0 points1 point ago

All it said was that it'll have memory leak instead of crashing. Not sure it's better since the memory leak can accumulate over time.

Wow, that's called a fix these days? I'm fine with it though as the map change crashes annoy the hell out of me.

[–]Apocolypse007 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It is probably a temporary work around until they can fully fix the problem, rather than waiting even longer to fully fix while people keep crashing.

[–]tomscatersbooner1991 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The r6 patch didn't mention anything about rubber-banding fixes. I believe they are focusing on memory leaks etc. on the server side. The server lag has been said to come from server companies underestimating the bandwidth and computer power required to operate a 64 man server on this game. I do not take credit for this statement however. Someone on this subreddit said it.

[–]charlesviper 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's also clearly a problem with differences in map design, specifically Tehran Highway. Sure, rubber banding happens often in poorly managed servers on any map, but Tehran Highway will have the problem on conquest regardless of any sort of variable. I have never, ever played a smooth game of Tehran Highway, even on 32 player servers that have no issue with the other maps in their rotation.

[–]whytookay 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is weird, as I generally have very smooth games on Tehran Highway, but get aggressive rubber banding at times on Kharg Island and Caspian Border.

[–]Sc0rch 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's the same on 360 too, very little rubberbanding on any map, but on Tehran Highway it's almost always there, and always really really severe too. Same with friends I've talked to.

Clearly something to do with that map.

[–]JEverymanJack Everyman 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It happens in conquest and on and after the third sets in rush for me. I have never noticed it on the first two sets.

[–]morgano 0 points1 point ago

The problem happens on 24 player PS3 servers so it's not just 64 player. Also as mentioned previously only some maps are affected (e.g. Tehran Highway).

[–]Mercy4Madness 0 points1 point ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The server lag has been said to come from server companies underestimating the bandwidth and computer power required to operate a 64 man server on this game.

I don't think that's the case. Going by what a "GameServer Officer" said it appears that it's on DICE's end that causes it.

Also this server provider's post addresses it as well.

[–]CyricCyr1c 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

but at this point we are awaiting the next server build in order to fix the issue.

Could be this one... fingers crossed

[–]FuzzeWuzze 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The fact of the matter is, i have played Tehran without lag on some servers...but other servers like some Seattle server ive played(which has like 20 ping) rubber bands like crazy.

I honestly think its a bit of both at this point.

I really hope the server time out issue gets fixed, I love this game but that is ruining the experience.

[–]SeveerSeveerio -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I know you shouldn't have to do this but there is a fix for 'the server has timed out' issue, go in to your search bar after pressing your windows key and type services.msc then scroll down to one called SSD discovery or something similar and stop it, this should also stop a service called UPNP device host or somethin and will stop your disconnects. (these settings revert everytime your comp restarts) Edit: if you are unable to stop either service u may need to right click on it and set it to manual and then try stop it again

[–]ZephyrnanoZephyrNano 0 points1 point ago

Hey, yep I tried that after seeing it on the forum.

It hasn't worked for me, I even turned UPnP off on my router.

Admins have to install the patch themselves. I installed it 10 minutes ago. My server rubberbanded a lot on Caspian and Teheran Highway. I'm running Caspian right now and it seems improved. The real test, however is Teheran Highway.

edit: Well, Caspian seemed improved slightly. Might just be a coincidence. Teheran, as always, is a nightmare.

[–]RDandersen -4 points-3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Thank you for fixing this, DICE. Had you included a colourblind mode, I'm sure that these fixes in a game I had been looking forward to for months would really improve my gaming experience. Guess I'll still not buy the game, though.

[–]Gremmel -4 points-3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Didn't fix anything. I ended up destroying my joystick today trying to lag my way to flares for jets. Unbound my keybinds to all heli and jet controls so I don't get any retarded ideas later and end up breaking something valuable.

FYI haven't broken a controller since I was five, in 1987.... GG "design".
