    Selective breeding certainly, but puppy mills? How do you know? There is a difference between a puppy mill and a responsible breeder. I'm not advocating strict selective breeding, but the Pomeranian certainly doesn't have the health problems that many breeds do, and a responsible breeder would never have the conditions you'll see in a puppy mill.

    Always adopt from a shelter or rescue. Even reputable breeders many times can't be trusted. While it's true that an adopted dog many times doesn't have a 'history', they are usually temperament tested. They are also vaccinated and neutered/spayed. You can spend time with the dogs at the shelter if you find one you like and you will know if you and the dog are a match.

    You will also be saving a life that would most likely be ended. Another plus: The cost to adopt is much less than buying a dog from a breeder.

    I always have. However, I've adopted from breeder rescues. Breeders who've folded, or dogs who were rejected as show dogs due to size or personality. So, I do know a bit about rescues and breeders :)

    I don't know what you're going for here by directing this comment to me. If your sister's business is not treating the animals properly, it should be shut down, yes. That in no way means that there aren't breeders out there capable of being humane. Have you tried talking to your sister?

    *Edit - If you were being serious, my apologies. If local authorities are ignoring, go national, talk to people who help animals. Report them to the ASPCA, the Humane Society, etc. But first, in all seriousness, try talking to your sister. You never know when talking might just help.

    Yeah, that was what i thought, too. It made my heart melt with all the cuteness until I thought about all the irresponsible breeding and inbreeding that had to happen to produce this little guy. That little snout; he's going to have a lot of breathing problems.

    I really hate to be 'that' guy especially when I thought he was so cute at first. But the more we oo and aww at this the more we encourage the terrible things that are happening. It's simple supply and demand but the effects of it are not so simple. Read it for yourself

    I know this is just r/aww and it's supposed to be lighthearted, but it's so important to know the truth.

    One of my sisters is a backyard dog breeder. She reminds me of Joseph Mengele because she is constantly 'creating' designer dogs. It makes me sick and I have tried my best to get her shut down.

    I could be wrong, but perhaps part of the reason the authorities don't go is because all they have is your word and no evidence (I'm just making a hypothesis, not a statement). They aren't allowed to go snooping around properties just because someone said something. Perhaps if you were able to present them with some photos or other evidence. I know she has her website they could check out, but maybe it isn't enough?? Maybe you've done this, i don't know, just trying to help though.

    Thank you. The frustrating thing is, the authorities have gone to her residence and she always meets them outside of her fenced in property. The area is very rural and from what I was told by her county animal control (and the sheriff's office) is that there are a lot of animal breeders, not enough man-power.

    In other words, the authorities have better things to do than to bust a back yard breeder. It's all a 'good ol' boy' area with that kind of mentality. Rednecks.

As cute as it is, showing people this creature and people posting the site you can purchase them from is just encouraging more people to buy dogs from puppy mills which is absolutely disgusting. Do your research and see exactly WHAT they do to these dogs, read the horror stories about them and then you can state that "the world needs to see this puppy".

    It looks like a pure black and cream pomeranian to me. There are a lot of different colors within the breed...same thing as with Labradors. The reddish Poms that you usually see are called red sables. There are also black and tans, cream sables, creams, beavers, parties (of various color), blue and tans, blue sables, wolf sables, pure black ones (I can't remember the name they use), and a few others I'm probably forgetting.

    If this dog is a Pom, when it grows up it will still look like a puppy. The 'key' is keeping the dog's coat cut short. It gives the dog the appearance of being a little bear. I don't like little dogs but I have seen adult Poms that still have the puppy look.

    We got our Pomeranian from a breeder, and later found out she had a nasty trachea problem and hadn't had her shots. When we confronted the breeder, she tried to tell us she had already told us this.

    I guess the jokes on her, we had 4 of these abso-fucking-lutely adorable puppies running around our house. I'm comfortable enough with my sexuality to say that I melted every time I saw them.
