This looks normal for a developing country without fully developed transport infrastructure. There appear to be no traffic lights or road markings. The accident was waiting to happen. Probably happens relatively often. Not enough regulation. The guy is swerving to avoid the car on his right, which probably distracted him from the woman on the bike.

And in most of those countries traffic accidents like this aren't completely uncommon. Stop bashing China because it's poor.

I'm not saying he's a great driver. He might not have seen her in time. Watch the sequence from the start. If the road systems were more regulated he might have, you know, at least slowed down to check nothing is coming from the right before charging through the junction. He might have had more warning that a junction was coming up. But even then, this sort of thing isn't totally unprecendented in developed countries such as the USA. With that road system he did the same as running a red light and might have been speeding. You could argue the taxi was doing the same. When there are no lights that means stopping or slowing enough to check for perpendicular oncoming traffic. I don't think he deliberately hit the woman though. The first thing he probably saw was the taxi which he swerved to avoid. After that, it's a high cabin, the woman may have been totally invisible. It appears certain he is evading the taxi because he moves to the wrong side of the road. It's a typical and tragic traffic accident.

China needs to invest in some traffic signals and roundabouts, especially as there are more and more people over there buying cars and taking to the roads. I don't know how prevalent it is, but the truck seemed to have approached the intersection without slowing and checking for cross traffic. Uncontrolled intersections are just accidents waiting to happen.

The truck tried to dodge the green car and had too much momentum to stop or to do a double slalom around the person. There were many mistakes done by both parties.

My first reaction would be not to sit in the middle of an intersection...don't know why anyone would really.

It is obvious that he saw the taxi and shit his pants to the left (wrong) side of the road and by the time he got over that shock it was too late for that poor woman. The human visual field is limited and they can only concentrate on so many events at a time. This gif offers a single perspective. I am saddened by the inability of the latent observers to put themselves in the position of the driver. This happened in an instant. We have all day to think about it. But I respect you for questioning the "conclusions" and assumptions of others.
