The first "how it feels to be a nice guy" where someone won't call the nice guy secretly manipulative

I went to middle school with Josh. He was such a douchebag. Our school was K-5th grade and I was transfered in at 5th grade. We were in the same class and he was suchhhh an ass to me. He brought in a game for the class to play and when I played it, he turned off the computer and said I couldn't play it. The teacher got on his ass. I loved it.

But he defiantly had/has talent. He sang out our School's musical and did an amazing job

To be fair, a good 90% of kids are complete douchebags in elementary school. And the remaining 10% have their moments.

Sorry, it's good that you learned early on that douchebags don't always get what they deserve.

He was a theater kid I'm sure. They are all fucking dicks. Anyway, check out The Wackness if you haven't. He's pretty damn decent in it.

I will definitely check it out. We both interviewed for Nick at the same time. That boy could sing, dance and act. When I was there, I looked like a fish out of water. During the questions, like an idiot asked if they could take out nick at night and put more cartoons on palmface

The directors were probably just sitting around one day, and were like "Hey, how about we just get one kid absolutely butt-fucking-ugly. You know, for comedic relief."

That's a really doctored photo. Josh, at least on his shows, looks really strange and sallow thin. Like, he looks like he lost it due to illness, not due to working out.

There's nothing wrong with Nickelodeon in general... just some of the more current live-action shows.

SpongeBob Squarepants, Hey Arnold!, Doug, Ren & Stimpy, etc. etc... all fine.

Drake and Josh, iCarly, etc. etc... not so much.

To clarify, the only reason I know the names of those 2 shows is because I have a sister that is 11 years younger than me.

[–]SlipperyWhenWet5 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Drake and Josh was decent. But then they took the bad stuff (the over acting) and made a whole show with nothing but it, and only occasional and very forced sincere moments.

The only network geared towards kids that is getting better and not horrifically worse is Cartoon Network. Even that had a couple years where it was just awful (Dude, What Would Happen, Destroy Build Destroy, etc. I can't figure out why they thought live action shows on a cartoon channel was a good idea)

Disney had been horrible for a while, and the only reason I go on Nickelodeon ever is to watch old Spongebob reruns.

[–]Olukon 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The channel "Nicktoons" is awesome! Their Iron Man cartoon is excellent and they occasionally repeat Invader Zim. CN has gone so downhill. The only thing they've got going for them is their Friday night line-up and Regular Show. [AS] is pretty bad now, too. They've been on some kind of live action binge that seems like it never ends.

It's hard to find quality animated shows these days. I guess it's just that it's expensive.

[–]SlipperyWhenWet5 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I only watch [AS] for the first couple hours to play for reruns of American Dad and Family Guy (hey, I like em'. I agree Family Guy has declined, but it's still got it's moments) and by then I'm too tired to keep my eyes open. But what I have seen of their live action shows are just too silly to bear. I don't get what kind of sense of humor they have.

But I don't know what is being played on CN that's so bad. Their morning lineup isn't great, but Adventure Time and Regular Show are too good for me to hate CN. That and they've been playing old Looney Toons shows around noon and very early, so that's pretty cool, too. The only thing that I really don't like on CN is the early morning shows (more shows based on toys, Ben 10, etc. that I'd wish they'd end but apparently there's still enough a market for them) and the live actions shows.

But either way, I'm assuming we're both outside of CN target audience, and I wouldn't be surprised if younger kids do enjoy the rest of the shows on TV.

[–]Olukon 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It is good that they replay classic Looney Toons, but their "New Looney Toons" are ridiculous. Anyhow, I'm actually really pissed at CN for cancelling SymBionic Titan. I'm a big fan of Genndy Tartakovsky; I grew up to all his awesome animations and cartoons! When CN canceled one of his greatest shows yet just because they couldn't make a toy out it, I lost a lot of respect for them.

[–]JimmyDThing 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Meh. It's as forgettable to me as the live-action shows from when I was younger like Brother to Brother and that crap. Sure, there's a few funny things you remember, but by and large live-action shows for kids suck.

[–]SlipperyWhenWet5 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

[–]JimmyDThing -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

iCarly was on at the same time, no? And all those other really dumb shows.

When I was a kid, there were actual cartoons. I grew up in the golden age of cartoons, it was great. Cartoons are much more appropriate for kids than live action because the ridiculousness makes sense in that context. Watching human beings act ridiculous is just stupid and embarrassing.

There were live-action shows when I was a kid, but most of them were "family" shows, so they weren't quite AS bad. They were still lame and cliche, but they weren't so ridiculous. The only live-action show I can think of from growing up that I'd really consider memorable was Boy Meets World. There was a little ridiculousness there, but it wasn't so over the top and there was a story that went past a single episode and a narrative that wasn't secondary to dumbass tactics like overacting and slapstick.

[–]SlipperyWhenWet5 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Cartoon Network's Adventure Time and Regular Show are pretty fantastic, and there are a couple other shows that are pretty good on there, but they were at their weakest when they were focusing on live action for a year.

[–]brotastic_ 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

iCarly premiered after Drake & Josh fizzled out and had the series finale

When you were a kid, your cartoons were the best. To the kids these days, the cartoons they have now are best. Maybe you don't like live-action shows but seeing as there are so many around many people must like them.

All the live action shows you are referring to are also "family" shows. Also, all the live action shows you're referring to have a narrative, whether it be from show-to-show or an overall series narrative.

Next time make a logical rant plz

[–]JimmyDThing 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Didn't say there wasn't a narrative. I said it's secondary to dumbass tactics like overacting and slapstick.

[–]theblueharvester 0 points1 point ago

OK, I'm gonna go ahead and say that I think iCarly is a pretty decent show. If nothing else, the older brother character is almost always hilarious. I feel like he could definitely branch out to more "mainstream" comedic roles and do pretty well.

[–]jonkoeson 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Really? I mean I'm not saying the shows now are worse than the ones I watched when I was a kid, but I don't enjoy those anymore either.

[–]Vidyogamasta 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Ehh, I guess it depends on exactly what shows you watched, I guess. I mean, I've gone back and watched some of the shows I watched as a kid and I still enjoy them. I'm more mature, yes, but comedy is still comedy. Certain "funny" things like fart jokes and such are kinda "eh," but most kids' shows aren't completely full of them. I think their humor is directed at a wider audience, a "fun for all ages" type of thing, which is why I still enjoy it.

For an analogy-- Yes, I enjoy Fallout, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying Mario, either, ya know?

Was Drake & Josh really that long ago? I don't feel like this has nostalgia status for me. I feel like it was three years ago at most.

I think it just started around the time I drifted away from nickelodeon. :-/

[–]Vidyogamasta 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I feel like Drake and Josh has been around longer than that, because I noticed there weren't many new D+J shows once iCarly came out. iCarly's been around for a couple of years at least, so D+J was either terribly short lived, or has been around a while.

It doesn't really have nostalgia status because it still airs. But the point of this post wasn't to invoke nostalgia, anyway.

I'm 19 and STILL watch drake and josh. I still watch adventure time, and Chowder, and Victorious. Being older has nothing to do with it- I just grew up on Nick/CN/Disney, and still enjoy them today, regardless of getting older.

Drake and Josh started years and years ago (without looking at Wikipedia and taking a stab at it...I'd say maybe 2003?...but it ended about 3 years ago if you count the Drake & Josh Christmas special. If you don't count that, I think it may have ended a year or two before that.

You did it wrong. Reddit etiquette dictates that you string them along from top to bottom so you've got a really long-ass image. People love scrolling down for ten minutes to view an image. For added effect, make it an animated gif with just the last pane animated. This will increase the size of the image file, and you know what they say - quantity = quality.

I agree with this to a point. I knew this guy who used to be like I'm such a nice guy but girls won't date me blahblahblah

Then he'd go after me and say he was going to kill himself since I wouldn't be with him.

You`re mixing "nice guy" with "low self-esteem guy".
