Child-murderer and rapist, known as "The Monster of the Andes". Targeted young girls, between the ages of 8 and 12. Arrested in 1980 and convicted in 1983 of killing 110 young girls but confessed to killing 300, exact total unknown. Though he may be the most prolific serial killer of the 20th century, he was released in 1998 after it was declared he had been rehabilitated. Current whereabouts unknown.

I don't get reddit's general attitude towards the death sentence. People mock pro-life people for supporting the death penalty, yet tend to be pro-choice and against the death penalty. How can they criticize them? Do they believe an unborn life is worthy to life than a possibly innocent adult convicted thrice for the same crime? I'm not taking about people who are against the death penalty financially, but in principle, who can anyone hold that position as rational and civilized?

You are assuming that it is the "unborn life" that matters, and not the fully-functional human adult that it is inside of. The fetus completely depends on the mother, and cannot survive outside of the womb. So your only options are:

1) Allow abortions. Let women decide whether or not they want to endure the hardships of pregnancy and child birth. It's their body, and they should decide what happens to it. The value of an already born, fully-functional human being is greater than that of a fetus.

2) Don't allow abortions. Force women to carry around an unwanted fetus for nine months, which could potentially ruin their lives and careers. Not to mention the six or so months of discomfort and the pain of child birth. The value of the fetus is greater than that of the woman.

Your assuming that a "fully functional" human adult locked away in person is more valuable than an unborn fetus. (Its alive, no matter what you call it) Your human being has 2 options:

  1. End the life of a human that is convicted to the same crime at least three times, and prevent any risk that they will ever hurt someone else and guarantee that they will never be free.

  2. Ideally being locked away in a building for the rest of his life under, living off the resources provided to him through the government for far longer than 9 months. Risking that they may be released early and get a chance to harm another innocent person while there.

No, a murderer's life has no higher value than a fetus's life.

Did you even read what I wrote? Where did I say that? I was explaining that the main controversy behind the abortion debate is women's rights. So you're ignoring that context when you try to reframe the debate by saying "Liberals think that murderers are more important than unborn babies!" I forget where I heard this, though I know it was a Youtube video about Colombian serial killers (may very well have been about this very guy), but supposedly when these murders were committed it didn't matter how many people you killed-- if you were convicted of murder, regardless of the homicide number, you were given a standard sentence of like a decade.

I actually agree with you. The purpose of prison is supposed to be rehabilitation. He was obviously severely mentally damaged. Ostensibly, they corrected that. If so, he should be reintegrated into society. The hang-up I have is the sheer scale of his offending, and the idea that some people may be irreparably broken.

Look into the Colombian "justice" system sometime. Rehabilitation doesn't come by spending half your day in a cell, half of it in a packed courtyard, and all of it trying to stay alive.

I remember that. Guinness actually emailed (failblog I think it was) saying to take the image down because it was copyright infringment, then failblog posted that email as another fail.

Lots of other photo site hosts unfortunately have bandwidth limit. I re-posted these from a tumblr, which the author of may have hosted on, for example, flickr. If flickr receives too many hits, the bandwidth limit will exceed and the photo will go down.

Thankfully, imgur-mirror-bot protects us all by mirroring the image on imgur, and re-commenting.

So the joke is that expanding it is interpreted as become a serial killer yourself and be on that list. That is a stretch of an interpretation that I had to think about to get.

Would the reader of this line in Wikipedia feel that they ought o graduate from a school where their alumni list is incomplete and needs expanding, or establish a city in Malta.

This is weird, especially coming in the wake of the fact that anyone can write anything on Wikipedia, including, "kill people."
