My housemate at uni and I used to leave our really important work til the last minute, and make a lot of it up. Insanity used to set in around 1am the day of the final deadline and every 10 words/10 minutes (whichever came first) we would feel we earned ourselves a 20 minute break to fill balloons with water and throw them from the window onto cars outside. On many occasions we'd work right through the night up until about an hour before the hand in. And when we finished we'd blast out the music from "Chariots of Fire" while throwing glasses of water over our heads, which was always very therapeutic.

In short, I know the feeling.

For me it always goes like this: 10 days to do my 10 page research paper. O man, I have other stuff due sooner. Eh, the paper can wait. Hmm, 3 days to finish that 10 page paper. Well, if I do 3-4 pages each day I can take my time and do it right. 2 days, haven't started, my mentality: 5 pages a day is no problem right? It only takes like 1 hour per page. Last day, haven't started. I'm going to go right home and start this thing < At 5 o'clock I'm going to start this thing < At 7:30 I'm DEFINITELY going to start < Ok, it's 11 o'clock, now I HAVE to start.

Then at 5 am I finish, catch a few winks, hand it in, get an A- Its the only way I know how.

I did this the other day. By 3am I was delirious. Got it done by 5:30am. By the time class rolled around I wasn't sure what I had written. Got my paper back yesterday, "A". Like a boss.

The night before my roommate's final writing portfolio was due he started working on it around 8pm. I went out and came back around 1am to go to sleep, at which point he was still plugging away. When I woke up at 8 am he had 12 empty Coronas on his desk and was still jamming away at his papers. I looked down from our bunk bed and said, "What the fuck are you doing?" He rocked out the rest of the sentence he was working on, looked up at me and just stared for about 15 seconds then kinda slurr-yelled, "I wouldn't bone a fat chick sober." and went right back to bashing out those papers.

And the worst part? This was Music History. My papers could be no longer than two pages, Times 10 pt., 1/2" margins, and we were VERY limited in the words we could use. I'd happily write a 10 page English Lit. paper over one of those 2 page monstrosities...
