Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

karmadecay

links not on karmadecay

loki010 you find some great stuff. the 'clarity' or the 'shepard's delight' pictures...they were awes. but the blatant repeats (jeff bridges shirt, three amigos, space shuttle image, ) need to stop.

please.

Hey loki, i see you responded to me in a PM. i'd rather the conversation be had in this dying thread.

Hi, I'm not sure if I fully understand your point. The Clarity / Shepards Pie image were found in exactly the same way as every other image I have posted - randomly surfing around the net then if something is particularly interesting I submit to Reddit.

I thought the point is the voting system is that the community decides if something is worthy or not at that specific moment in time. It does mention on Reddit that you shouldn't complain about reposts. Just because you have seen it before. I tend to tell when a link is often reposed / tired as it gets quickly buried after minimal upvotes and a few downvotes.

If I were to use Karma Decay for every image - where would you draw the line? If Clarity had been posted in /hunting 12 months ago with 2 votes would it be acceptable to post? What about 100? 1000?

Looking on Karma Decay the Three Amigos picture was posted before on Reddit in /movies, so it would technically be a xpost. It received 1259 upvotes and near near 300 comments (no complaints about being a repost) Should this link have not been submitted because a lot of people seemed to not have seen the picture and appreciated it.

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

you are absolutely correct. the community uses the voting system to deem what is worthy. and that users shouldn't complain about reposts. but i am not a firm believer in 'if it's new to me/them' as an argument. but i don't make the rules. i can only vote. which i have. and my voting is open, so you'll see im consistent.

what i will say is this. in my very very short time here, new users that have a very lopsided amount of link karma vs. comment karma are a red flag. it's an account being built for something. for advertising usually. your 5 -6 weeks here with 15,500/1,900....that's.....abnormal. im not saying what you're doing is bad or wrong or nefarious. just....out of the ordinary. and out of the ordinary sometimes catches my attention.

so i just thought i'd mention it in a small thread, instead of one of the big threads.

but please. keep on keeping on. i hope i'm wrong.

Thanks for the reply.

But surely the rediquette is what should be followed, if the majority of the community choose to have re-posting banned - great. Would you break other etiquette guidlines and post someone's personal information? I think it was a bit unfair to tell me to stop when I haven't done anything wrong.

In terms of any nefarious intentions I have never even heard of people doing that - and I'm sure there would be a quicker / better way of doing it. I certainly don't have any intentions other than procrastination.

Thanks again.
