I swear EarthPorn is 20-30% Washington/Oregon. The Pacific Northwest is fucking beautiful.

The PacNW is also home to a disproportionate number of unemployed photographers. It's a beautiful landscape up here, and there are loads of folks who have nothing but time to shoot it!

I think the only way this is possible is if the cloud layer is at the same elevation as the peak. basically the top of the mountain just touches the bottom of the clouds. pretty incredible coincidence;

Goddamnit I can't wait to get back to Washington state. Washington D.C. sucks in comparison. I swear, when I fly back into the state, it better be damn sunny so I can just soak up all the beauty. Mmmmmm 5 weeks.

On the other hand, you trade this for all the fall beauty of the Appalachians... that's what I've been missing since moving from Central VA to the Seattle area two months ago.

Shenandoah is definitely pretty. Fall colors here generally get diluted by the evergreens but there are a few places like Leavenworth and the Columbia Gorge that I find to be more stunning in fall than anywhere else. The Methow Valley might be my favorite place but it doesn't get much fall color as far as I know.

I just drove out Hwy 2 to Leavenworth last weekend and there were some pretty colors, although I was disappointed by the lack of places to pull over and take pictures until I was on the eastern side of the pass. And I'm heading to the Columbia Gorge this weekend, although all of the pictures I've seen on Flickr make it look like it's either turning slowly or it's also heavily evergreen.

There have been some really great sunsets in the past few weeks--feels like a crime that my DSLR has been collecting dust the whole time.

Nice shot.

Did you just repost this from another guy but mirror the image?

[–]Frankthetank62 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's a little different. The other guy took the picture himself this morning, and he has about 1100 upvotes.

No, I linked immediately after posting (in a comment that is inexplicably downvoted) where I found the image (on the Bad Astronomy blog) as well as other images on a local news site.
