Honestly when every survey I've taken asking me about my cultural heritage has the politically correct terminology for other races (African American, Latino, Chinese, Japanese) but 'Caucasian' is replaced with 'White', I get offended.

When people talk about the different cultures and heritage their ancestors came from, and it's applauded, but I mention my ancestry and I'm consistently told "You don't have culture, you're white. You're just a mutt." I find that offensive.

When I'm told "You dance (or don't dance) like a white person." Or when such a negative connotation depicting a 'white' person, and I have to hear it, I'm offended.

When I'm consistently told "Your great-great-great grandaddy owned my great-great-great grandaddy." Especially when there's no proof to back it up, I'm offended. (I'd like to add being able to trace my ancestry back to before the Civil War- Nobody on either side of our family owned another individual.)

When I can't say something, or do something, but every other race can, because I'm white, I'm offended.

When shit like this comes out, and the general insinuation (I feel) is that really only white people are this racist or insensitive because the mistakes of other white men before us- I'm offended.

And when I'm downvoted because I'm white and I take offense to this backwards ass form of racism people like to throw around today- Well, fuck you.

That's all.

Also "white" is not a race, and "Caucasian" is a bullshit term that didn't mean "white people" originally, but got hijacked. People from the Caucasus region should be pissed about how it is used now. I've been witness to a young lady who looked to be of at least some African or related recent ethnic decent, arguing with another young lady whom most would call "white". They were arguing about "privilege" this and "poverty" that. Turned out the young "white" gal was of strong Irish decent, tracing back the majority of her family tree born in the US all the way back to the massive immigration of Irish during/from the potato famine. The other young lady at some people expressed her opinion that "doesn't matter, your white, owned slaves". The only thing that would have been better is if the other young lady had some strong Native American background, the irony levels would have required the area to be declared a Superfund site.

'Booger Butt' sounds like quite a cultural and unusual name. You should embrace it!

As an American, I can assure you that I am mortified every time I see someone dressed in a cowboy costume. Just because a small group of people in our country chose to ride around the country herding cattle does not mean that everyone in the country was like that. Honestly, almost no one does this in modern times anyways, and when they do, it's more for show than an actual job. This image is not representative of our country as a whole! I would like to implore everyone to stop wearing such culturally insensitive costumes on Halloween; please consider the disrespect that you are causing to others.

I find the cowboy costume to be offensive. Not because of Hallowe'en, but because of those who wear it in everyday life. It offends my intelligence.

The blacks aren't victims of vampire attacks? Maybe I'm just from a different generation but when I was a kid vampires were attacking blacks all over the place. No one said anything either, it's just the way it was.

So, where is the redneck costume? They're a culture too. And Zombies. That's exploitation of the dead. Good Fucking Christ. Can't we have Halloween without turning it into a "cultural" cry-fest? Chicks dress like whores. Guys dress like douche bags. You get drunk, you get laid, you hope the pics don't end up on Facebook or Reddit and you wait 365 days to do it again.

Actually, you are supposed to "dress" as demons, or the dead, durring Halloween. The point was to scare away spirits.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and disagree with this ad. There's only one of those costumes that I can't defend. And (hopefully) the majority of people dressing up in costumes like that aren't attempting to demean an entire culture with it. They're having fun with a segment of the culture that puts itself out there in that manner.

EDIT: Apparently I'm not that far out on a limb here.

[–]knightmare07 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

While it is true that people don't think they're offending cultures when dressing up like this, and most likely many of your friends (as well as mine) don't really care if someone dresses up satirizing the absurdity of the more outlandish natures of our various cultures; it is still offensive when people AFTER Halloween prolong the jokes represented during the Halloween season, and the satirical costumes evolve in to racist jokes.

[–]suck_it_ows 1 point2 points ago

The world is an offensive place. Get over it.

[–]knightmare07 -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

So if it's already offensive, why contribute more offending material to it? Wouldn't it be smarter to slowly remove the offending material? That's like saying, "The building is already on fire. Get over it." And more and more people just keep throwing gasoline and wood rather than trying to put it out with water or something.

I understand your logic that the world is a tough place, get over it. But in that respect, you're admitting that this is offensive, right?

[–]tenlow 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm offended by your posts. The only politically correct thing to do is to have you remove them. Or, we can all grow up a little and realize that the world does not revolve around each and every one of us. Just because one person (or even a large group of persons) is offended by something does not mean it needs to be hidden or removed.

[–]knightmare07 -5 points-4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I believe it is supposed to be Lil' Wayne. But the point is people see that "costume" after Halloween is over. They see someone dressed similarly, and subconsciously make judgments about that person solely based on how they look. I'm not saying we shouldn't wear costumes like this. I personally think some of these costumes are hilarious. But the uncultured, uneducated, ignorant people in our country, don't realize that after Halloween, these costumes disappear, and we go back to being people again. They see Asian girl, and instantly flash back to that party where the girl dressed up like a Geisha, or a Hispanic dude, and think that dirty mexican riding a donkey at the club.

Girl in top left is not a rapper. Top right is not a geisha. Bottom left is not a Mexican man riding a donkey. Bottom right is not a suicide bomber.

and I highly doubt that when people dress up as any of those, that they think they are representing a whole culture of people.

Just sayin

[–]knightmare07 -3 points-2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Fair enough, but people looking at these costumes see them in that light. There is sadly a large percentage of the population that is not as smart or cultured as the rest of us, realizing that this is a satire, and not a representation. Subconsciously, people see these costumes and think to themselves, "Ha. drunk wetback." Or "Asians look funny"

While I agree with what you said, I'm also "Just sayin"

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's suppose to offend middle eastern people. I know a couple of people who are middle eastern, and they constantly deal with terrorist related remarks, even if they aren't meant to be offensive.

[–]knightmare07 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Much like the other costumes. They aren't intended to be offensive, more satirizing different aspects of humanity. But sometimes people take it too far.

There are Caucasian terrorists who wear regular clothes and don't strap bombs to their chest that live in the USA. So right now I'm dressed like a terrorist, you could say.

If anyone want to wear wonky fake teeth, a bowler hat or anyother stereotypical british wear (even if its silly or false) then you have my permission. Im not a racist in my own sense and that which is politically correct however I do belive that the actual concept of racism is out of hand. Some people just need to take a joke and be a little less paranoid.

[–]funkymoose 2 points3 points ago*

Eh, I'm Asian and I don't find the Asian one offensive at all. The other one's maybe, but the Geisha one doesn't make me feel like i'm being mocked or anything.

I looked it up and the "black" costume is a white Dallas cowboy's cheerleader dressing as little Wayne.

That one... I might not dress up as, since it has a history of pissing the hell off of black people. The Mexican one and the Terrorist one are borderline, since it focuses on a negative aspect and it attempts to generalize an entire culture. The only reason I would be hesitant to do the terrorist one is because I know a couple middle eastern people who have to deal with "terrorist" related remarks and jokes pretty much every other day.

Redneck costumes aren't really comparable because they are considered a subset within the white culture.

Anyways, I highly doubt these people are intending on being offensive. That being said, as long as someone isn't a dick about it, dressing up as other cultures is fine in my book.

Eh, regardless i'm dressing up as a cowboy and dressing my dog up as a cow.

[–]knightmare07 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

As a fellow Asian, I too find it difficult to be offended by the Geisha costume, but the concept behind the posters is still a fight against ignorance, I think. I worded it a lot better in like ten different posts on here, from the more ignorant people. But it's nice to see another person who seems to understand what's going on here. Btw, that sounds like a hilarious costume idea. I'm personally going with an adult version of this post: http://imgur.com/a/3v5gr

[–]bingblondie -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You kinda contradict yourself there; you say that two of them focus upon a negative aspect in a culture and try to generalize it, but then go on to say that redneck/southerner is just a "subset". But that's the whole point - classing a minority as the majority. When people dress up as cowboys, they think everyone at that time in America was one, but they weren't. I hope you get the gist of what I'm saying here.

Anybody else see the irony of these costumes since most of the top topical costumes this year according to Times magazine are mostly people who offend at least parts of the white community. Harold Camping, Charlie Sheen, Anon, a Mormon, Rebecca Black, GOP presidential candidates. Where are our posters?

So white culture is represented by these people? Good to know all white people are crazy christian, drug addicted, activist, religious, crappy pop singing, copy point spewing morons. God forbid we were portrayed as white people, or people who rode horses, or were portrayed as people who wore togas. That would be so much more insulting our culture then Charlie Sheen.

[–]knightmare07 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Sadly. At least you have a long list of famous people to cling to. You can pick and choose your representatives. For the most part, gaining international notoriety, one of the only people representing my culture is a boxer/ senator/ singer.

But this is only an issue of color of skin, because culture is far more complex, encompassing all of our economic, social, educational, religious, and racial (if one wants to cling to the out-dated sense of "race") backgrounds to define who we are.

[–]JasJ002 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

So what happens when a black guy wears a Charlie Sheen mask? How is that any different then a white guy dressing up like Flava Flav? Its ok for a black person to dress up like a white asshole but its not ok for a white person to dress up like a black asshole. Little bit of a double standard I'm starting to see. Every skin color, every culture has idiots, people they're ashamed of, and rituals which don't fit modern society.

[–]knightmare07 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I agree. And I would actually make the argument that a black guy dressing up like Charlie Sheen would still be douchebaggery, it's just less likely that you'll see this happen. It would also be a problem for a Chinese guy to dress up as Flava, but again... less likely that it would happen. I agree that there are indeed double standards, sadly. I think for the most part, both of us are somewhere near the same page, however. Modern society, and its bourgeois ideology is half the reason society as a whole is in so much of a mess these days.

[–]gorchitza -2 points-1 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I am going as an overtly sensitive minority this time. I got the minority part down, now I just have to act overtly sensitive.

But seriously, if you live in an area where people cannot distinguish the difference between a parody and a real thing, you need to move the fuck out of your hilly billy town.

That year when Borat came out, I had a lot of people attempting a mock eastern european accent talking about fucking donkeys and their sisters. As an eastern european I got some comments from chicks saying I sound like Borat. Which I ignored until a particularly hot one said it too and I answered "I am not Borat and I don't fuck donkeys, BUT, I am hung like one" and then commence unprotected sex.

People dressing up like Borat, or a Tsar, or Bolshevik, or a vampire (offensive to Romanians) is not the racism that hurts, the one that does is believes over real cultural differences which can be summarized with Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions.

People believing that all Russians drink vodka is not hurting me, that is not what co-workers deal with. However having the word "fighting" in the English language mean everything from general disagreement to physical fights is confusing as all hell and makes you white people look like pussy ass bitches.

When I point out a flaw in something and disagree with you, I am having a small argument, not a "fight", stop calling it a fight, I am not punching you in the face like an Irishman greets his wife. And when you run to the boss saying I like to fight, it makes me want to show you an actual fight.

I make fun of western white people all the time, actually, that's a favourite past time for all minorities and immigrants. And you get to make fun of us for Halloween, as long as you stop calling my disagreements "fights", I think that's a fair trade off.

Are all Russians violent and not willing to accept our rich American lexicon?

P.S. Having unprotected sex is awesome and all... so good for you.

The violence is caused by yankee american capitalist pig dog lexicon, where only 1% of the words are used to describe 99% of daily life using words such as "like", "fuck", "shit", "fight", "Oh my god" and "You know what I mean/saying?"

This shitty language of yours was traded publicly on main street where it was given a much higher value than it actually is, as well as publicly traded unchecked derivatives of those shitty ass words which are even worse, secured by your media and entertainment industry.

Then everything imploded and you got Rebecca Black, Justice Beaver, Hannah Montana and Lil Wayne. Meanwhile, the superior British English master race made shows such as "IT crowd".

(unprotected sex is not safe and wrong, but damn it feelsgoodman, WHY?, WHY MUST ALL GOOD THINGS GIVE YOU HEART ATTACKS OR BABI BORN?)
