I wonder if the creator really knew what he was doing, or, just going by colors (water is blue, earth/grass is green, fire is red, and so on?)

Agreed.Didn't quite get the gold - wind reference, thought it was because it was the only one I hadn't had before. Looks like I'm not alone.
Wind was the only thing left, so, had to stick it to gold I guess.

I don't drink much scotch but I can advise to not buy the red. I have a bottle of the black and like it for an occasional chug. Yes a chug. I have found that black label is best when drank strait from the bottle one a day.

Red is garbage, black is decent for the price but you can do better, blue is way overpriced, green is often considered to be the most worthwhile of the bunch since it blends some good single malts, and I have no idea on gold.
Really the most compelling reason to drink JW is because you can get it anywhere.

I found the red somewhat passable for it's price, what really put me off though, i bought a small sample bottle (already purchased a talisker and a black bottle before), and it turns out the bottle was plastic instead of glass, major letdown.
Having tried it though, red label isnt my thing, so unless it is all that is to be had, i'd opt for something else

The caol ila does contribute a little more earthiness to the green than it does to the black, so it kinda makes sense.
