I have all of these episodes, and let my kids watch them all they want.

I come home to my 3 year old telling me all kinds of facts.

"My heart is in my chest"

"I have bones in my body"

They always request to watch Bill Nye, and they always chant "Bill Bill" during the intro, and sometimes just randomly with each other. (3 kids, 3yr and 2yr who chant, and I have a baby who obviously can't chant yet).

I adored this show as a kid and I am so unbelievably happy to share it with them now. I find myself learning still, even though I've seen them all before.

Bill Nye is totally cool and all that (we have enough nerd love for the guy in the science dept.), but kids in kindergarten are probably learning more in total knowledge, experience, physical development, social interaction, and conceptual understanding than any time after that. The concept of the "plus sign" in math is a hugely complex operator that kids simply "get", and they probably learn more words that year than any science class can contribute (and I say the latter knowing that science has more vocabulary than many foreign language classes).

Does anyone remember those science videos where the intro was in a museum and the camera would move around through the museum and zoom in on pictures of animals that were all over the walls? I think the walls were white and there might have been a t-rex skeleton in the museum as well. I just remember the intro had really cool music, or maybe I just thought it was cool thirteen years ago...anyways I've been trying to remember what it was called so I can look up the intro and reminisce

I lived in Glendale, CA for a breif amount of time and my Roomate/Landlord invited me to a Swing Dancing Bar he goes to (the same place Swingers had scenes in I believe) and Bill Nye was there Swing Dancing. I asked my Roomate and he was like, "oh yea that's he, he sucks at dancing."

In Billy Nye's Defence Rick (my Roomate) had won state Championships when he was younger.

TL:DR I saw Bill Nye my roomate said he sucks at swing Dancing.

Although I loved the show, apparently the guy was a total douche in person. Several of the science teachers at my HS (we had a damn cool science faculty btw) had met him at various events and they all stated he was a stuck up tool.

I attended Intel ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair), and saw him there. It was amazing how many people were trying to get pictures and meet him. He wasn't even at a booth, people were huddled around him as he walked around the fair. Seems like he's as well known as some pop culture celebrities.

He actually came to my school and we gave him a standing welcome for like 10 minutes when he came on the stage. I asked him a question about his bow ties and he actually has over a hundred bow ties and has never bought any of them. He has always received them as gifts.

Science is hard work. It's intellectual work. It has mathematics (gasp) Science is most definitely not about dancing around, singing content-less rap songs.
