I think it is and that the guy broke his back badly, and later committed suicide because of it. He was a like a pro bmx-er or something. Will look for proof, add it later if I find it.

breaking both ankles, fracturing a vertebra, and breaking several bones in his wrist. He also dislocated his ankle and right foot.

That's getting so fucked up on one fall.

I hope no one has tried this stunt again? It seems the ramp moving towards you pushes you back and makes any kind of trajectory hard to predict.

Also, in the successful jump, the rider wasn't moving forward at a very good clip. In the gif, the rider is moving forward pretty fast.

No, that is about as false an equivocation as you can think of. Sure I think it's stupid. I'm not a BMX biker. If you read some of the posts above, people have done this successfully. It's the same way I think bungee jumping is stupid, but I'm sure people are willing to do it because they love everything to do with falling and nearly dying.

I'm sorry but bringing genocide into this is just muddying the issue, and even still, it's not even close to the scale you're suggesting. Saying that someone doing something like this is getting what he deserves when he breaks dozens of bones and eventually commits suicide is cold-hearted at best, bastardly at worst. It's possible to feel sorry for someone even though their pain came during an activity that is extremely dangerous. What you're saying is if someone was rock climbing solo and fell and died, you'd respond "good riddance". Heartless, IMO.

I think bungee jumping is stupid, but I'm sure people are willing to do it because they love everything to do with falling and nearly dying.

I also don't feel sorry when people die after they willingly jump out of an airplane/bridge for kicks. Stunts like that serve no purpose and I can't sympathize when things go wrong. These are just accidents waiting to happen and a failure to not see the utter danger of taking these stupid risks is beyond comprehension for me.

I also can't sympathize with people who built a village at the bottom of an active volcano or other ridiculous plans that you know will never end well.

If I remember correctly, his fiance left him shortly after the injury. I can't imagine losing the person that you are planning on spending the rest of your life with and then not having anything to fall back on for support.

It is. I saw a documentary on extreme sports or something and this exact scene was in it. I think the biker ended up committing suicide from extreme depression because he was never going to be able to ride BMX or ride it the same again.
