Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:
[text here](/spoiler)

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Skeetin' sweat out of my hands like Spiderman again.

You and me both. I feel like this would be the opposite reflex of what I'd want in such a situation where I might need to grip for what my life's worth.

[–]moral_dilemma 6 points7 points ago

In the reddit thread where russians climb bridge cables, someone said that sweaty hands would've been useful back in the day for clinging on trees/ in rural settings before cement and metal cities.

That's true. I used to climb the over-height wooden doorways in the century home where I grew up. Would lick my hands and feet and shimmy up, then pounce on unsuspecting passersby. (I was 6. Now I just do normal rockclimbing.)

[–]afsdjkll 0 points1 point ago

Ha! I am a hell of a lot older now and I can still reach most of my foot. Either I am bendy, or I have an unusually long tongue. Honestly, I thought everyone could do this. Hubby says 'no'.

[–]Very_Blunt 0 points1 point ago

So I guess a "Can lick her feet" is needed then? I wish I was flexible..I'm only double jointed in my hands...

my feet always tingle when I see photos/videos like these, I wonder if the sensation has a name. It's a lot different than the tingling I sometime feel when I listen to music.

[–]Disguising 13 points14 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Paresthesia is the sensation of pins and needles. Formication is a subset of paresthesia which is the sensation of your skin crawling. I experience a cold sweat in my hands and feet along with some of these symptoms which is indicative of release of catecholamines, namely adrenaline. I am uncertain if that symptom alone meets the clinical definition of Palmoplantar Hyperhidrosis. As well as, I can only speculate that Norepinephrine (the other catecholamine) plays a role in some of the dizziness that is experienced, because it modulates the intensity of central reactions to vestibular stimulation in the ear. Nevertheless, when faced with a fear inducing image I believe a combination of these phenomena (in individually varying intensities) produces the syndrome that we experience.

[–]tromadz 0 points1 point ago

I could never do that for fear that the "switch" in my head would flip and I would just jump

[–]davesterist 18 points19 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think the same way -_- Since, you know, even though I can sit on a high chair for hours, feet danglin', moving around all I want, as soon as the gap between the floor and my feet is more than 20 feet, I instantly feel like I'm going to subconsciously jump.

[–]m_le 9 points10 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm scared of heights, but I'm the same way. Does anyone know why we feel we must jump even at extraordinarily heights?

[–]GoldStar4RobotBoy 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's called "L’appel du vide". It's a French phrase that loosely translated to "Call of the Void". The Internets claim there is no proper English word for it.

[–]m_le 0 points1 point ago

You can tell the guy closest to the camera is scared shitless but is trying to play it cool by assuming a "laid back" position which is in reality him getting as far away from the edge as possible without openly looking like he's afraid. I say this because in any sort of situation where I find myself in high places, that is the exact stance I assume.

[–]brodies 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

To make it to the roof we first had to find an implement to unlock the latch on the outside of the elevator gate. Then we lowered ourselves down onto the nearby connection posts that held the mast to the building. These were 4 inch wide round tubes of steal. Once our feet were placed on two of these round tubes, we slowly nudged our legs to the half way point and pushed off from the building, hovered for a moment in balance, and leaned over and caught the mast in our hands. From building to mast was about seven feet. Then of course it was up the mast about 20 feet to roof level and back over a similar set of supports. All of this maneuvering having been done a little over 800 feet above street level, with no fall protection,

NOPE.

Aon Center, third tallest building in Chicago. Taller than the Hancock building in the background too.

[–]Awkward_Typo 7 points8 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They're actually at Aqua http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqua_(skyscraper) A flipping sweet residential building that isn't much shorter than Aon.

edit: The link isn't displaying properly, due to the parentheses. Gonna have to give it the old copy-paste.

[–]HammerJack 4 points5 points ago

Pro tip, escaping parenthesis in a link fixes that, in your case

[–]AmazingThew -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yes, but not usually windy enough to, say, blow you off a building. I'd also imagine the wind is much stronger at street level than this high up; most of the reason for the wind is the buildings are very close together and the streets are (mostly) a perfect grid, so the wind just gets funneled down the streets.

As soon as you get away from the buildings the wind dies down a lot; I'd imagine the same goes for getting above the buildings, although I can't tell that from experience.

[–]riskyrodent 0 points1 point ago

A few friends and I did this one night when were drunk. Looking back I'm happy we weren't too drunk because it could have ended us right then and there.

I commend your bravery, etc. And there isn't enough money or yoni in the world to make me do that.

My brain would make my body inch closer and closer to the edge. Then I would freak the fuck out and probably slip off the ledge while trying to scramble back over the railing.

Fucking awesome! You can do this at Marina City but the ledge is a LOT smaller and there's a camera up there. About 600 foot at the roof. Use the street level elevator entrance and just wait for someone to walk in/out

Would you really want to be under any influence whatsoever when you're sitting on the edge of a skyscraper?

[–]ColonicIrritation 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Getting me drunk or high would be the only way to get me on the roof of a skyscraper.
