Funny story: When my daughter was 3ish I was watching this movie hoping she'd stay playing in the other room. Well of course she wanders in and I scramble for the remote to pause it because it was this scene. I pause right when he kicks the dog and it freezes the dog mid air. She sees the scene, she knows what she saw, and she looks from the flailing dog back to me and then back to the flailing dog and then back to me with a stunned look on her face. I haven't watched that movie since then. She's 7 now.
