Free speech is all fun and games until someone bashes Jesus.

Hmm. Going over dictatorship in history class this n next week, so naturally I was reminded me of this:

Roosevelt: "In our country, anyone can go to the White House and shout "Down with Roosevelt!""

Stalin: "In our country, too, anyone can go to the Red Square and shout "Down with Roosevelt!""

I wanna see the look on this guy's face once he meets an Arab Christian.

Edit: Also, isn't Jesus supposedly an Arab Jew?

[–]brainpain14 19 points20 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yes. According to geography, Jesus would've been a Middle Eastern Jew. However, American christians need Jesus to be white or their entire religion falls apart >:}

[–]nike_rules 9 points10 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I once mentioned that Jesus was likely an Arab Jew in class and this dumber-than-a-doorknob girl said "No because I know Jesus wasn't a terrorist". (I live in the South btw).

I find it troubling to realize that the dumb bitch who said that is likely to breed one day.

[–]bulletbillx 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

And that kinda shit is why sometimes I wish sherman had burned the whole bloody south during the civil war.

[–]GreggoryBasore 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, but on a downside, if the war had ended that soon slavery probably would have stayed legal in the north instead of getting abolished after the war.

[–]LaserGuidedPolarBear 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Ignorant prejudiced trash like that would think the "Arab" was trying to pull some kind of trick. I've seen it before.

[–]nike_rules 7 points8 points ago

I knew a kid from Lebanon who's name was Mohammad Essa Bin Abdul and he was just as crazy about Jesus as any white southerner.

[–]Sarcasm_Llama 10 points11 points ago

"Yahweh was a pig. Jesus was a monkey."

I'd buy that bumper sticker!

[–]themcp 15 points16 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I suspect most of the target audience would want to ask what a "yahweh" is, because they're too ignorant of their own alleged beliefs to know. Also, "monkey" probably isn't insulting enough to compare to the level of the stickers in the photo.

If your goal is to piss off redneck southerners, "Jesus says NASCAR sucks" is probably adequate.

[–]DrunkenFist 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

One proclaiming "Jesus hate Miller High-Life" would get you lynched.

Though I never really considered Kentucky "south".

Driven by a handicapped guy.

Who is demonstrably unstable and probably armed.

[–]Iarwain_ben_Adar 4 points5 points ago

He's obviously wounded himself seriously before, leaving him handicapped.

Don't cause him to inflict more harm.

Kentucky is part of the South. It's just not part of the Old South (East Coast from Maryland south to Georgia) or the Deep South (East Texas to the Florida Panhandle to South Carolina.)

[–]Aavagadrro 5 points6 points ago

Im not defending that idiot, but some of us cripples can be rather dangerous. Not all of us are in wheelchairs or unable to move, limited mobility is usually all you need to get one of those plates.

That being said, he fucking disgusts me. Probably because bigots of any flavor disgust me.

[–]squigs 3 points4 points ago

A disabled veteran (unless the obscured word makes him a disabled campervan or gerrycan or something). And you have no idea what the disability is. He could be tougher than you expect.

Hundred bucks says he's only handicapped because he's so fucking fat.

[–]samhouston 2 points3 points ago

Not likely. He or she would need at least a F-250, and this truck is only a F-150. May have uncontrollable eye twitching in both eyes, from inbreeding.

Although the e-sort does have its fill of stream sniping idiots, I'd like to think this particular brand of idiot has only touched a computer to print out his own asinine brand of bumper sticker.

I wonder what the guy thinks of Arab, Alabama, a place where everyone is about as white Christian Republican as it gets and they only stopped opening football games with the Lord's Prayer over the loudspeaker recently, under the threat of a potential lawsuit... which only inspired local preachers to show up and lead the crowd in the Lord's Prayer.

I made a travel bingo game for my kids while traveling to Florida. One square was a picture just like this one. Southern Georgia and northern Florida are filled with these. It's a good thing my kids can't actually read the bumper stickers yet.

[–]MJZMan 2 points3 points ago

Regardless of what's written on them, I question the sanity of anyone who applies a bumper sticker directly on the paint. Heck, I question them on the bumper as well.

Still Racism is never justified. I think he's probably one of those people who are too stupid to be able to distinguish between Arab and Muslim. This makes me feel worse, since it only adds to the stereotype that all Americans are this bigoted and stupid. Its because of people like him that I tell people I'm Canadian while I'm in Europe, because I'm afraid it will give off a bad impression that I'm American.

Also, I'm glad to see the South is turning you away from religion, but not from botching a perfectly good English sentence, true Southern Style!

[–]IAmADino[S] 1 point2 points ago

This brings back great childhood memories of living in Birmingham, Alabama with my mom. Whenever we saw an ignorant bumper sticker, we'd recite it as a quote, attributed to Jesus. In the context of this submission:

"BOMB MECCA." - Jesus Christ, 34 AD

Good times...good times for sure.

[–]moltenwater77 1 point2 points ago

[–]morethanpretty 1 point2 points ago

(Please read this in a pissed off Texan twang as it is meant to be.)

I would like to point out that all of y'all here bashin the "south" for this kind of intolerance and broad generalization about another group of people is just as guilty when it comes to ignorantly generalizing as the person who owns this truck. No, you aren't bein as violent, but you are lumping all of us southerners into one bucket. Well the truth is, not all of us are Kentucky Fried. I was bred Texan, and although there is plenty of stupidity here due to a failing state government and education system that glorifies ignorance, that doesn't mean we're all like that and movin away from it from it and turnin our nose up at it ain't gonna make it any better. I would love to move from Texas, but my family is here, and I have true compassion for those that are being failed by my state. So I will make my stand here and do my best to fight it.

All religions are bigoted against other religions, or they wouldn't survive. Look what happened to judaism, a faith that isn't militantly spread and actually seems to prefer people not to convert, and because of that it is less than 1% as popular as christianity or islam despite fathering both of them. The statements here are just what 99% of people really believe but are too polite to say. A Christian who thinks muslims are friends is the ignorant one. I think most of these are pretty fair.

It's perplexing people are saying this guy is ignorant and should be forced to mix with muslims. He probably knows a fair amount about islam, anyone that does would agree with most of what he says. Muslims are not and can not be civilized, they will always be a cancer on humanity. Why is it r/atheism seems so hateful of Christians but tolerant of muslims who are exponentially less tolerant of us.

[–]zelmerszoetrop 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm not. We're not. I think all religions are stupid.

[–]ConcordApes 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Why is that? I don't see any stickers signifying that the person is a Christian or a member of any other religion. All I see are bumper stickers that express how much the owner hates: muslims, arabs, koreans & terrorists.

For all you know, this person is an agnostic or atheist.

[–]IAmADino[S] 6 points7 points ago

[–]ConcordApes 2 points3 points ago

It reminds me of all the people around here that slam other religions because of their own.

It may remind you of that, but despite your and my expectations that truck doesn't even have a 'God Bless America.' I was surprised too. He or she very well may be agnostic or atheist.

I guess the part I was concerned about is I thought about all of those Christians who define everything around them as godless devil worshippers and atheists, while they define everything & everyone good around them as Christians. I think it would be a mistake of a similar scale to fall into the knee-jerk assumption that this abhorrent attitude is a result of religion.

We as atheists shouldn't fall into similar traps and classify all of the bad stuff around us as products of a Christian or theists mind.

[–]masterspeeks 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Religions are bad thinking and have been unnecessary organizations for centuries. I would bet thousands that this person would call themselves a Christian. It isn't inaccurate to call this out as a byproduct of the factional intolerance that results from the divisive religions people follow.

I would bet my life n the fact that the owner of this truck is on his knees for jesus

That was my first thought too. But then I looked closer. No references to his/her god, Jesus, no cross, no christian fish, not even a 'God Bless America.' Religious nuts who plaster their cars bumper stickers at least throw a few messages on their about their religion of choice. This person very well may be an atheist or agnostic.

I thought the same, no reference whatsoever that he is christian or even religious.

It's making an assumption, but it's not in any way an unreasonable assumption to make, all things considered.

Racist - yes, but doesn't seem to have a religious slant at all. He even has a bumper sticker that states a belief in evolution.

This looks shopped. I can tell by some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

People like that should be forced to spend time attending services/events hosted by the people they hate. This person probably doesn't know too much to begin with, and I would guess that they know even less about religions other than fundie 'mericanism.

Religion subjected to critical analysis should be all it takes to turn you against religion. This situation should just get you to find disgust in how retarded some of the people there are.

We should print a photo of this off and send it to the Kentucky Ministry of Transportation and complain about how you found these offensive/hateful/racist.

I'm not what the laws are there, but here they would be in deep trouble for racism and hate speech with those stickers.

"Mohammed was a monkey."

At least they're starting to get evolution!

On another note, however, its nice to know that if we're ever attacked by anyone we can send dumbfucks like this off to war.

The owner of that truck is a bit indiscriminate, but I agree with the core of his sentiment for the following reasons:

(1) Islam seeks to influence government and the courts to enact and enforce religious law.

(2) Islamic law stipulates the horrific treatment, torture and death of women, homosexuals and non-believers for purely religious offences.

For these reasons alone, some Islamic states are no better than NAZI Germany and should be dealt with similarly. An all-out war to end what would be considered genocide if it were directed against an ethnic group may become an unpleasant necessity and an ethical imperative.

If my country did the right thing and declared war on, for example, Iran for human rights abuses, I, personally, would sign up and grab a gun and shoot every Iranian Islamist that has been responsible for the torture and death of innocent Iranians who violated sharia law. And every Iranian Islamist who needed to be prevented from doing so in the future.

How can we turn a blind eye to this reality in the name of tolerance? Are we not human? Is it not our responsibility to protect those who cannot protect themselves? At least this fellow has the courage to speak out against what he understands on some level is wrong.

The same dictum must apply to any religion, including Christianity, that seeks to influence the legal and political functioning of a state. Complete religious freedom can only be granted upon condition of complete non-interference in public affairs by those granted religious freedom.

If the fundies get in power and begin burning witches again or stoning adulterers in Harvard Square, I'll join up to fight them, too.
