A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

The hypocrisy you have to love. Think of how much adults scoffed at the stuff we were into when we were kids, like Ninja Turtles and Mario. Difference here is Angry Birds has penetration across all ages and walks of life. I was sitting in a hair salon waiting for my girlfriend to have her hair done when I hear some average middle aged woman playing Angry Birds.

This drawing is in no way "shitty". You must have no taste or sense of what is a good drawing.

The blur wasn't necessary, but adds a certain dynamic.

I think the blur was totally necessary... Without it the piece would look unfinished (NOT in a million years "shitty" lol, I agree) mostly because the face is rendered so much more then the rest of the image.. Which may be what Cerp was trying to say in his own douchey kind of way.

Sure, it just bothered me a bit that Reddit gets its fair share of Redditor drawings that really do look like shit, but get nothing but praise because they portay something Reddit related.

Then an actual good drawing gets posted, and immediately gets flack.

Oh and even without the blur, it would look better than 90% of the work that gets posted.

Pretty much yeah, he's using gratuitous blurring to cover up the fact he couldn't be bothered to finish the painting.

By the looks of things this guy is a competent artist (maybe). He just really phoned this in.

I'm not saying he is or he isn't competent. I said it looks like he is competent, but I could be wrong, it's not easy to tell from one doodle.

Also competence is pretty relative depending on whether you are a professional artist or not.

Some people think that shit they find on deviant art is the best art they've ever seen, which from an industry perspective looks awful.

I tend to judge artwork on an absolute scale, not trying to be conceited but standards have to be high so I don't lose perspective. I can't stand molly coddling of artists.

But then I realize this is probably not the time or place.

It is shitty. It's a blurry mess used to cover up the fact that this guy only rendered the face and botched the rest of it.

This is the corel painter equivalent of covering your picture in lens flares to hide your lack of drawing ability and/or effort. 90% of this picture is blur effect and it completely ruins the picture.

He even copy-pasted the shell casings then rotated them as can be seen by the inconsistent light source.

But to be honest I think this is just an artists quick doodle to amuse himself.

Of course it's a rather quick doodle. Why would you judge it otherwise?

You have a skewed definition of shitty. But please, enlighten me and link us to some not shitty drawings that are made as seemingly effortless and quick as this one.

Also, lens flares are on a whole different scale of crappyness and are not comparable with this.

Note lastly, that the blur, while it is an easy way to hide undetailed areas, might even be there to convey the illusion of heat that comes from the flames on the bottom.

Aah, arguing over the internet :)

I just think it's a pretty cheap trick to use that much blur and this picture could have been a lot better without it.

I know what you're saying about the flames but it doesn't change the fact that most of this picture is a smear. It's like painting a picture that is mostly black and saying "It's a painting of the inside of a cave! I could have painted something awesome there but It's more fitting this way!"

I think this could definitely have been not shitty, if he didn't shitty-fy it with all the blur. That's all I'm sayin.

As an artist, I agree. It looks like shit with the blur. Obviously it draws your focus to the face, the most rendered area of the piece. But if you look at the piece as a whole, it's obnoxious and demonstrates a lack of effort in the rest of the drawing.
