this is a cringe inducing nightmare for me. i was once in a small college course with a cool professor i admired. i said something very smart that he agreed with and he raised his hand up for me to give him a high five, except i was sitting a few seats away from him (board room type table). i felt like if i tried to give him a high five (which i hate doing) that i would have to reach too far and probably elbow someone in the face, so i just did nothing.

i think about this moment at least 3 times a week and it's been like 3 years since it happened. fuuuuuuck.

I do this ALL THE FUCKING TIME. It never used to be a problem, but when I moved to the east coast everyone I met had a different handshake. It got to the point where whenever someone would gesture for one, I'd basically say "So what are we going for here?" It was marginally less awkward than fucking it up every time.

Then I got some good advice. Always be the one to initiate, and you can't fuck it up. The bad thing is I don't really want to touch people.
