This is more like my 6 year old watching me play. "I didn't scream because I was scared, daddy. It was a scream to let you know there was a creeper over there."

[–]ColdChemical 97 points98 points ago

that's adorable

[–]Canarka 21 points22 points ago

Blasphemer! It is you who does the screaming and your kid is the one comforting you. Admit it, admit it!

[–]Strawcrazyman 5 points6 points ago

I screamed a little just from reading the word creeperAAAH!

That's brave! My 6 year old refuses under any circumstances to play survival mode. Even in creative, the night scares her.

[–]admiraljustin 2 points3 points ago

Get her some Optifine and set it to day only ;)

This is pretty much me watching Coes Quest or some of the other LPs...

[–]Captain_Sparky 42 points43 points ago

Tobuscus' LP comes to mind

[–]AForgetfulCultist 21 points22 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's painful and I assume intentionally so. I'm just glad iJustine doesn't. Watching that Portal 2 video was the most painful experience of my life. I can only hope that it was nerd baiting and she wasn't just that damn dumb.

[–]Captain_Sparky 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm pretty sure they're both just really good trolls. But that doesn't make it any less frustrating when they fail to do obvious things over and over, heh. Still hilarious though. I insta-subscribed to Toby when I stumbled on his Terraria LP and he was showing off his "beautiful house". Had me in tears

[–]AForgetfulCultist 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm halfway with him. The catchphrase humour can be intensely grating for me at times. Same with Reddit comments really =p

[–]douglasdtlltd1995 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Just like Jesse Cox and TB right? Fuck, their LP of Terraria makes me OCD.

[–]AForgetfulCultist 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

From what I've seen of them that's almost entirely on Jesse's side and even then he's not thaaaaat bad.

[–]douglasdtlltd1995 1 point2 points ago

It gets even funnier when they just fuck around and take more time doing one thing.

[–]dszordan 14 points15 points ago

I used to watch Tobuscus. Holy shit.

"Come on girl! Watchu talkin' 'bout girl! Oh my god, what was that, what was that! What was that!? What was.. A sheep. It's a sheep Ha ha. It's a sheep, silly sheep. Whatchu doin' there girl!"

Fuck my life.

[–]Captain_Sparky 2 points3 points ago

Ah yes, that was just a couple videos ago. What makes it truly absurd is that he's playing on Peaceful.

[–]imasunbear 0 points1 point ago

[–]T-Fro 22 points23 points ago

Tobuscus should top that list! I love the guy and his vids are funny, but god damn.

[–]Captain_Sparky 1 point2 points ago

Not only does he do that in the first episode, but he later forgets how to make a wooden pick, and does it again.

[–]WalrusFist 33 points34 points ago

Cook logs in a furnace, they work exactly the same as coal.

[–]Pteraspidomorphi 9 points10 points ago

It's a huge waste of logs.

[–]Loggie 24 points25 points ago

[–]BerryGuns 2 points3 points ago

I have over 500 coal stored, never made charcoal. Just pick up coal as you mine around for diamonds.

[–]Baked_By_Oven 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

yes but when it's night time and an LPer has both a furnace, wood and fuel. but goes out to get coal for torches. I just want to punch them.

[–]BerryGuns 1 point2 points ago

haha yeh i guess so, i understand though, I can't really adjust to using charcoal myself.

[–]jjesusfreak01 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is a new one for me. I need to remember charcoal. I'm usually cowering my first night in an unlit hole because I didn't find coal the first day.

Those were the days...

[–]FiniteBlank 1 point2 points ago

It's way easier to see what someone should have done when you're not the one playing.

[–]mathematicalbeauty 22 points23 points ago

[–]Captain_Sparky 18 points19 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

My dad reads websites the way you'd read a book. So if the thing that he needs to click on is a giant bright button in the middle of the page, flashing and glowing and clearly marked that this is what you push to do the thing, he still spends about five minutes reading from the top left, across to the right, down to the next line, all the way to where the button is.

Watching him navigate the web can drive you mad

[–]nermid 6 points7 points ago

[–]unbuttered_toast 0 points1 point ago

Well yeah. Screens aren't for touching. Put your finger near what you're pointing at, above it or to the side. Don't actually touch the screen.

[–]Gman1012 1 point2 points ago

But They Won't pay attention to where you point unless you bother them by touching the screen. Then they start to wipe off the smudge and see what you were talking about.

Attempted to get my teenaged daughter to play Portal 2 this weekend. I started her at the beginning because I knew she'd love Wheatley's character (which she did).

But watching her attempt to solve the puzzles was agony.

[–]Daemon_of_Mail 0 points1 point ago

Watching people co-op Minecraft is painful when you see one of them accidentally kill their friend because they left-clicked a door with a sword in hand. Then they continue to left-click all doors, buttons and levers.

"Look, daddy! I'm gonna hug the green guy!"

[–]TheGrimace1234 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The first time i played on a friend's computer he mentioned that mobs disappear during the day. I went outside after my first night, saw a green thing, and turned to punch it. I assumed it would yield something useful, since that is what you get during the day. I'm sure his reaction to my seemingly logical move was hilarious. That's when I went home and bought the alpha. So addictive.

[–]FredL2 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I feel for you. Luckily, I didn't make that mistake, since I'd been reading up about the mobs beforehand. I used to be cautious and run from all the mobs, but now I just engage them point blank. The combat is rather simple, luckily, until you get surrounded, in which case you're doomed.

EDIT: Maybe he trolled you intentionally? :)

[–]kurtss 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

When I first played, I saw a Creeper on my way to find a new home since I lost my previous one. It exploded. "Woah, I killed something!" Little did I know I'd be scared shitless because of those "exploding green penises" months later.

My daughter (6) and I play the same world, but we take turns and play independently. I build mansions, bridges, redstone machines and minecars, fight mobs, tunnel deep and gather materials. Then I switch to peaceful, push her chair up to the desk and leave the room. She can close the game herself when she's done. When I play again, there are new fields of flowers, paintings have been hung in unusual locations and there are giant mushrooms everywhere. I find quirky little houses build out of sand and dirt, artistic sculptures of glass and water, steps leading in Escher-like directions. And much to her amusement, she always leaves me standing on top of my roof - lately covering her tracks to conceal how she got up there. I couldn't be happier.

Really? Where did you leave off? The writing felt like it improved in the third season.

[–]theHM 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It went from being a funny, endearing detective show to just another detective show. I'll keep watching in the hope that it improves, but so far this season has been disappointing.

[–]nermid 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This season just feels like a build toward a huge-ass finale, to me.

I'm ok with that, I'm just a little sad that the episodes are weak on the road to it. Last night's episode was ok.

The Halloween episode is always good, though. They might even hit us with an extra 3XK sequel somewhere, since they did the bait and switch this week.

Also, they got rid of his mom's boyfriend, Sir Not Appearing On This Show. Thank God for that.

Amusingly, we have a /warp kidzone on the Minecraft Australia server. My 6yo daughter plays there, as does the 5yo daughter of another mod. They both get on the mumble server and chat away happily to each other (they've never met, and they're over 1000km apart). My 2yo son gets on and plays too - but he seems to just enjoy digging holes, and then asking for help to get out of them. Oh. And killing cows. Killing cows is, apparently, his life ambition. He runs up to them going MOO MOO chop HAHahahahahahahahahah.

Kids are funny.

(If you want to actually get your kid involved, message me here and we'll try to tee up a time that's convenient for all of us. We're GMT+10 and GMT+11, being in Australia)

This is my 5 year old.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/l7z87/hey_reddit_my_5_year_old_girl_plays_minecraft_and/

I just let her do her own thing on creative. She found an NPC village, covered it with lava buckets. She's constantly on a quest to find more "doggies" and she even has her own idea's for minecraft.

She's even getting the grasp of redstone circuits. She still doesn't quite get what the various gates do, but she does know that the redstone needs a switch or power source. She mostly plays around with pistons and doors.

I don't really think there is a right or wrong way to play it. I just let her have her own fun.

Whenever I see a five year old I remember that this child does not remember the 90's and was born when I was 15. On top of that I can have a conversation with this child.

This un-nerves me.

My 6yo grandson watched me and wanted to play Minecraft. I bought him an account and setup a server for both of us. I built him a big house with a giant waterslide out back. As soon as he got inworld, all he wanted to do was FIGHT!!!!

I let him get me a couple of times then I killed him. He simply re-spawned and came running at me, bare fisted. Kill kill kill. I just bopped him repeatedly until he got sick of respawning.

Finally, he got the idea, it's not all about killing the other guy. I took him for a walk into the wilderness. It got dark, I suggested we make some digs. I began by knocking out a small tunnel and by 6 blocks in he killed me with his diamond sword. "Hey buddy, you're on your own now".

After getting dizzy watching him jump and spin, not watching where he was going, falling down holes and saying I have to die to get home, I gave him a compass. He got home.... eventually... after a very long time.

My 5 year old LOVES minecraft! Part of me wants to set him up with his own account (he uses mine) and let him join a server, but wow, I can only imagine what that would be like. Maybe we should set up a kids of minecraft server and let them go nuts.

Ha tell me about it. I have a 6 year old neighbor that I let play MC when he comes over, and it's very frustrating watching him play. I must say, it's a really good game for a youngin' though. He just comes up to me and tells me what he wants to do, and I say, "Okay Will, let's make a checklist first! So you want to build a wall, so first you need to make sure you have a pickaxe, then go collect stone...".

Yes, this is my reaction too. But I was more interested in seeing what he'd create. I loved his buildings of dirt, sand, unrefined iron, and the like. :) I saved his first world for posterity, (which he worked on for two months).
