I have tried. It's a fucking nightmare. And, if ya' happen to go out to a bar...oh good luck...a couple of beers and it's over. I've quit for over 3 months at a time and still went back! I know a fella who quit for 12 years and THEN started smoking. Very disheartening.

You have to be very determined and it has to come from within. If you are quitting for somebody else, it doesn't work. I started smoking when i was 16/17. Quit about 8 months ago. I'm 25 now. Haven't had a smoke, I have been piss drunk many times in the last 8 months. Your friends have to help out though. I was never offered a cig by a friend. I told them the day I quit (they laughed, as I had tried quitting before and they though I'll be back in 2 days like before), but they saw I was serious when I didn't go back to smoking even after a week. Then they were supportive. Now I don't get a craving at all. Initially I substituted it with beer (not the best option, but it worked for me). Every night I drank beer as a reward for not smoking that day. Then I stopped that too. Now I drink weekends and don't smoke. Take up a physical sport or do some running. Your chest will burn like a bitch, maybe that will give you more incentive to quit. But in the end, it all comes down to you. You have to want to QUIT and keep reminding that you don't have to some. Woosah it.

Thanks so much for the encouragement and advice. That was much appreciated.

ok let me rephrase that, not trying, just doing.
