This is something i've been wondering about for a few years. Maybe i've got a bit of confirmation bias going on but it seems like it only started happening a few years ago on reddit, as if it's spreading like a meme:

Why do so many guys on reddit suggest marriage so casually, as if it's some sort of relationship/life panacea. "My girlfriend baked me a cake, look!" "MARRY HER NOW". "My barrista drew a heart on my cappuccino!" "YOU MARRY THAT GIRL". I saw one iphone text conversation on here that i'll never forget, where a girl said something funny to a friend-zoned redditor, which he obviously found amusing enough to post, and his text reply was "I'm going to marry you some day, you know that?"; even now i'm cringing, recalling it.

I mean, it's not funny, it's definitely not cute, it almost sounds demented. And i see it so frequently, probably on a daily basis through casual browsing, that at this stage i'm wondering if it's some sort of puritan American quality that i've never noticed before? I wonder that because i also read often enough, again through casual browsing, that so and so was divorced by (young age e.g. 21). In Ireland it'd almost be unheard of to be getting married by the ages some Americans are getting divorced by.

Anyway I really do hope that it's just a nerd meme (i don't mean 'memegenerator' type meme), because it's not cool at all.
