A very good point. Consciousness seems to make human beings foremost egocentric. Creativity and reason are likely just byproducts.

I disagree, a little bit of narcissism never hurt any one. I would argue that the ego is easily the most important part of a person. It gives us the will to live, the will to strive. Any one with low self-esteem(or who has had low self-esteem in the past) will tell you how horrible that is. I'm not an egotist, but I have a pretty big ego. It's the only reason that I have the balls to challenge people's opinions and form my own.

I also don't entirely agree with you that creativity and reason are merely byproducts. They are extremely useful traits on their own merits.

By the way; I'm trying to start a discussion, not an argument

I think you have strong enough instinct to drive you to do your best to survive, like any other animals.

By egocentric, I mean that human beings tend to think everything exists to have meaning regarding us. It has severely handicaped us when trying to understand things.

I don't argue that creativity and reason are very useful. Consciousness is first self-consciousness. I don't know what kind of evolution advantage self-consciousness had. Scientists might figure it out one day. I guess gardually gaining self-consciousness started millions of years ago. While there are not so many evidences that in that period there were so many, highly complicated creative or thinking activities. It would suggest that the main function of consciousness might not be creativity or reasoning.

Geoffrey Miller suggests in "The Mating Mind" that the bigger brain-> more creativity is the peacock tail for human beings: females chose the bigger brain/more creativity, which drove our brain bigger and bigger. I find it very interesting theory, but the creative results in those millions of years had been really few, raw and poor. I would have thought it be a big waste.

Yea, I feel it too. I got a friend who talks like he's in the same kinda place. It's really weird and has brought about a kind of delirium and disorientation but it seems as though, in a slow and cold way, things are lightening up but it's still every single day I feel this terror. Always thinking about things like whether or not anything is real as if I'm trying to persuade or sell it to someone. It feels really insane but sometimes these things are just so powerful.. It's always terrifying talking to anybody about it cause I always get these weird responses and usually the conversation doesn't go anywhere. People look at me with odd expressions but these days, that's probably not uncommon. Things are simply very weird and apparently nothing is actually knowable. As if life itself is a paradox and we human beings are trying to find out how, what, and why. I'm always stumbling on things like, "Time is a measurement of.. what? If you don't link thinks in your mind, it's as if there's only a present moment and time is totally imaginary. Memory therefore could cause the illusion of time when it's essentially a story recorded and often interpreted in the mind. Without interpretation there is only an unknowable experience that.. happened or didn't?" Just blatant mind-boggled thinking.

It's insane and terrifying. I want to ignore the thoughts but really in doing so I am just lying to myself. It is empowering to know that nothing really matters and I can live not giving a fuck, but then I think that nothing matters so why do anything? I've also been suffering from depersonalization for a couple years which is perfect for making situations feel even more strange. Oh what I would give to go back to the ignorant bliss that was my life years ago before having such realizations and depersonalization. I'm certainly going to stick things out but it's scary also that I could die any instant. The time thing strikes hard with me. I've thought the exact same thing. All social and physical constructions are bizarre as well. I've always thought that life and living was a normal thing, but really it is a strange and bizarre phenomenon and the things people have established are just things we do to waste time until we die.

Well, as terrifying as "depersonalization" is, I think it's a good thing in the long run. Before everything kinda collapsed on me, I was heavy into some spiritual study and I was chugging as hard as I could to find answers. What I learned in this is that we aren't actually 'people'. It's like a dream we construct after birth and we're helped by our peers who are in their own dream. So, when I really stepped into the reality of this, suddenly it became very odd how I actually moved, to use a tiny example. I have no idea how it happens and sometimes I'm frightened that at any point I could just stop moving because I don't know how.. It's like I'm just watching everything happen, like a kid sitting in the back alone at a party. It would be a very long discussion to go deeper. Sometimes I think the symptoms of depersonalization, which is something that by this definition I am experiencing, it could possibly be that the sense that nothing feels real is some kind of subconscious signal that just happens to seem frightening. I've heard a LOT from spiritual guides who say awakening can be disorienting, terrifying and very painful. It doesn't have to be of course, but it can be. I also learned that there's a stage where the mind can create a "little me" and experiences this "looking around" and feeling very small and vulnerable. It's fucked up but if it has to happen, it will. Also, I learned that that death isn't real in the way we see it. I have no direct knowledge but I hear the when 'death' occurs, it's the spirit's body dying because the essence of what we are is undying and unborn. It's crazy. The world is spinning. rofl..

It falls under the category of plagiarism. In journalism, if we find a photo licensed for republication with attribution on the internet and print it without attribution, we can be sued for plagiarism which is a form of IP theft. Often, citation can in fact protect you.

Rather not. Reading a lot of history from time to time. Including a lot of source material. First hand accounts by people. It is clear that at any time the vast majority of people just accept what is happening without serious introspection. The always seems to have been a small percentage who could not just accept the situation and wondered 'what the hell is going on."

My initial response to this realization was to think the world would be a better place if everyone questioned existence.

Then i realized that if very many at any time questioned existence society might well collapse.
