Upvoted for truth. But not only the novels, computer games, board games, movies, etc.

I'm not sure that's a completely fair comparison. There are way too many popular stories that are far too derivative of the Lord of the Rings. At least Rowling wrote her books with a great deal of creative flair compared to others (Jordan, Brooks). And the Hero's journey archetype existed long before Tolkien.

Don't worry, I grew up on Harry Potter, it will always be the most incredible series in my mind and my children will read/ have read to them, all the books as was done to me.

Your mind is weak & limited. There are plenty of better books besides Tolkien's.

A nice single shot is Howl's Moving Castle. The Chronicles of Narina obviously. Anything by Ed Greenwood. R.A. Salvatore's Legend of Drizzit series is also very good. Those are just the tip of the literary fantasy world's iceberg.

A Wizard of Earthsea: School of magic, arrogant aristocratic student enemy, forbidden forest, personal dark side. What sets these books off are Rowling's flair for humor, wonderful names for things, incredibly detailed and soaring narrative arc, character evolution, and setting in relationship to a modern England.

Gimli is a "bearded, funny, uncle-like guy"? Someone saw the movie but didn't read the book...

You're describing Peter Jackson's Gimli. Not Tolkien's. And Peter Jackson's Gimli was created after Rowling's Hagrid, so she didn't really copy that. But yeah, Rowling sucks IMO.

Indeed I was disappointed by the portrayal of Gimli in the movies.

Gimly is a tough bastard in the books. Movies made him out to be a buffoon.

Funny illustration, but I'm getting sick of this comparison. They're nothing alike. Fucking stop it.
