Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Please mark spoilers like this:

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

I lived in Africa for a bit and definitely saw a lot of ironic hand-me-downs. One of the more memorable one was seeing a kid on the side of the street bottling run off water in an "Orange County Yacht Club" shirt.

Even poor African children hate mondays. Now I don't feel so bad.

I don't like the new Garfield at all. The whole things really gone downhill since they abandoned the lasagna storyline.

Not wishing to preach, but i think there is a hidden meaning here - I don't don't like Monday's was a song written by bob geldof and the boomtown rats. Bob geldof has become something of a latter day saint for his work in Africa but many accuse him of double standards and riding the celebrity do-gooder wave (looking at you too Bono) I see this piece from banksey as a slight on this kid being given some bob geldof tshirt to further his publicise his own career and basically left and told to get on with it rather than getting the assistance he really needs (food, aid, medical, educashun)

Sorry if I've misinterpreted that or whatever, but that's kind of how I see it. (ps, would just like to say bob geldof has done more for the world than the rest of us reading this combined I'm sure, but banksy can be a sharp character who pulls no punches)

This was written next to this piece when it was shown at MOCA:

“Girlfriend: 'so what does it mean?' Me: 'It was inspired by the famine in Darfur. It’s one of the most complicated stencils I’ve ever cut.' Girlfriend: 'That must have been horrible.' Me: 'It’s not so bad if you use a sharp knife.' Girlfriend: 'I meant the famine in Darfur.' Me: 'Oh yeah, Totally.'”

What major act can we do as individuals to end poverty?

[–]ShaCess 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

YOU are an individual, I am an individual. WE are an enormous and powerful collective force. What would you like to do?

[–]magi27[S] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

what i mean is that huge organization (UNICEF, Oxfam etc)are trying to help African countries. Still poverty and hunger exists so what can we do? I don't know actually?

You any ideas?

[–]ShaCess 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well if we're going to take the line that large organizations are the answer, (And I believe that they must work around massive corruption from all sides and are often at least partially invested in poverty.) then we could raise funding for and conduct studies into whether or not they are effective, we could volunteer for said organizations and see for ourselves firsthand. We work really hard at whatever we do, save up, directly into poverty stricken areas and have a look at what's being done as well as do what we can to help. We could organize awareness campaigns in our home areas. And that's just the two of us, I don't know if you know anyone with trade experience but I do, we could get annoy them and harass them then go to third world countries with all our friends who are builders and engineers and soldiers for defense and GET THAT SHIT SORTED But that would be invasion which I believe is wrong. We could become teachers and go get some education on while trying not to dilute culture but I imagine it's pretty hard to study while struggling for your life. Or we could help to overthrow capitalism in the hopes that eventually humanity will be governed and it's course dictated by the majority of the humans and the resources can be divided fairly but that's a tricky one as it would need to be global and God knows arseholes are abundant. But not as abundant as the nice ones such as you magi27. That I am sure of.

I'm lucky I live in Bristol, his shit is everywhere. Shame that half of it gets defaced though, always annoying to see.

His museum exhibit was ridiculous though, fucking amazing. And fairly creepy... He can make good propaganda for pretty much anything.

I love Banksy. He is a true artist of the world. He shares his art with everyone, not just people who are willing to get up and go to art museum. He speaks for himself and the world. He is in cahoots with the world.

Banksy is a dick. Poser. Pompous. Self-Righteous. Dick. Good Artist. But fuck him.

[–]snackies 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Maybe reddit doesn't like banksy IDK, and I may get downvoted for this but w/e. Banksy isn't really vocal about being "better" than anyone else, if you're talking about the documentery, I think he told the whole story and left a decision about whether or not MBW was a true artist up to the viewer. Other than that he isn't very outspoken other than his art, which is phenomenal. The messages are good (at least in my opinion) largely critiquing modern society, and a semi police-state mentality.

Just wanted to voice my thoughts on this, I would like to hear why he is "self-righteous" or a dick.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

He's popular and mainstream. Reddit is bound to hate him. For someone as private as Banksy a lot of people here a quick to judge him. They don't even know him and they know very little about him personally yet they call him a dick and self-righteous. To be expected.

Any artist who copys other artists work is a dick/cunt. Even more of a cunt if they make money of it. End of. I feel sorry for blek.

All valid points. My reasoning is as follows; He was mean to the guy in the movie so shuttup.

I hate these kind of comparisons. Like I dont have a right to hate my personal situation because someone somewhere else has it much worse?
