I did. Prodigy was my first. Can still hear my squawking Prometheus 2400 baud modem on my Mac Plus. Even made my very first online e-transaction and bought only my third Compact Disc for my collection. I was amazed at how easy it was and I knew I had witnessed the future.

The CD was Danny Elfman's So-Lo in case anyone is interested.

You don't even need to go back that far. Remember when YouTube just let you watch videos?

Started on BBSes and a .edu account over a SLIP connection. God! I'm old.

Definitely had a brief trial of Prodigy at some point, but in the '90s I was mostly on my dad's CompuServe account and local dial-up BBSes, then the dreaded AOL.

What I miss are the BBSes. Finding new phone numbers, navigating a new system...

Haha I started on prodigy as well. I used to post on the video game cheat forums with shit I read out of nintendo power. It was my first start in trying to make cool ascii art and I failed miserably.

I remember our 14.4 upgrade... It was amazing.

We never had prodigy but I wanted it.

I got online via a 2400 baud modem with the dip-switches and you had to type commas and spaces in the phone number and the set up an init-string and worry about handshaking.

There was only one place to go online to that wasn't long distance.

SAD TRUTH If you want to get online here, then dialup is your only option. Motherfucking still. STILL.

No broadband. No DSL. No Cable. Its fucking DIALUP or SATELLITE and they both suck ass from the 90's.

The ubiquitous "they", whoever they are, have been telling 'us' that next year DSL will be available in our area. For about ten years now.

So if anybody out there is in a position to come out here and either start a decent ISP or just kick the fuckshitdamncrap out of ritter, It would make a lot of people very happy. Ok not a lot. A few people.

Earlier. BBSes and PC Link (AOL before it was AOL).

Yeah, fuck all that fancy graphical stuff. Pick up sword, wield sword, woo, I'm wielding! And later on, Trumpet>Netscape>Yahoo!>search "xxx".

Hellz yeah! Or Trumpet>Kali>MOO2. I still occasionally locate and fire up the latest version of Nethack without those fancy-shmancy "graphic tile" cheats.

No, just Tradewars 2002, Mutants, and various RPGs that I can't remember.

Best opportunity I've ever had - here we go.

At some point on PRODIGY, they ran a serial novel/story that was about people who had/developed various "powers" and started running into each other, and the govt. was involved somehow - very Heroes-esque, but this was 1990-ish.

Anyone know what it was called and if it's available anywhere?

Edit: Btw, no - Q-Link and Compuserve, here.

I started on Prodigy, but I definitely didn't have a color monitor. Might be the first time I ever saw that in color!

I spent so much time on *P, it's not even funny. I used to get yelled at for being on Prodigy when my parents wanted to use the phone. I'd spend hours and hours reading the Wheel of Time message board.
