This illusion is much less convincing in actual presence of the object. By using a camera you effectively remove the depth perceptions that cause this illusion to be undone. I have made many of these (My grad thesis was on illusion) and they require quite several yards of distance to be effective on someone with two eyes, decent vision, and normal depth perception. What's neat is that the camera emphasizes the lie and not the truth because of the brain's visual heuristics.
