It strikes you that you're old because this is a show you loved when you were a kid, right? Just wait, it gets better! I saw the post and went "What the fuck was Double Dare?" You know you're old when someone else's cherished childhood show came way after you were a kid.

Hard to believe Marc Summers had OCD with that mess going on around him.

[–]orkid68 38 points39 points ago

He describes it in this recent interview. You also get to see what a good guy he really is.

Most people aren't as cool as you thought they were, particularly if they've been doing entertainment for a while. Since he disappeared off my radar between Double Dare and Unwrapped I figured he'd washed out or turned into a total jerk.

I'm happy to see neither is true :).

I remember an interview with him. He was discussing how hard it was to live with OCD and the various things that would bother him.

Later in the show he was down on all fours straightening the frilly edge of a rug - all the little stand had to be perfectly straight. I am quite sure he has/d OCD and wasn't merely super anal retentive.

[–]thebrandon 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

hah, i recall him on all fours fixing his carpet. I could not figure out why he didn't just trash it.

[–]dewright23 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm basing my comment on an interview with him I watched on 60 minutes. He does not like anything out of place or dirty. If you watch his video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd5wFzVm-co he says his OCD was about cleanliness and making things symmetrical. So a show where shit gets tossed everywhere and slime covers everything would certainly be hard to handle I would think if your OCD involved cleanliness.

[–]dewright23 -1 points0 points ago

No. You're getting your downvotes because the definition of OCD is "Obsessive-compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions).." As he stated in his interviews he is driven to keep everything neat and orderly. I completely understand what OCD is.

[–]44problems 9 points10 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

What was funny about Double Dare was that no one played strategically. If your team was up, you'd be asked a question. If you didn't know, you could dare the other team to answer for 2x the money. Then they could answer or double dare for 4x. At this point, everyone just did the physical challenge.

But every once in a while, a team would get a tough question, dare the other team, then it comes back and they answer it for 4x the dollars.

Marc explained all of this every episode, and he would freak out if anyone ever did it right. It was rare.

[–]daveMTU 1 point2 points ago

You're correct! Since most of the images floating around the web are screencaps from the broadcast version, I thought the link above was a cool behind-the-scenes look at one of FDD's opening toss-ups. In spirit of your catch, here's a pic of an early DD show before they even switched from having two red teams to red and blue teams link!

When I was little this was our favorite show. We liked the jokes and games and prizes but mostly we liked the obstacle course at the end. We used to fantasize about being on the show and getting to the end, not so we could win prizes, but so we could eat all that delicious food. We were poor and often went hungry. To us a pool full of pudding was the real prize. We never understood why the kids didn't try to eat more of it.
