though the poster is being a dick about it, they are correct.

by linking to an imgur version of a webcomic, two things happen.

first, the author does not get any of the thousands, if not hundreds of thousands (or, knowing reddit, millions in a pseudo-DDoS) of unique page views that the imgur-hosted comic gets, even though they were the ones who created, and then hosted the comic at their own expense (yes i realize that for many it's a job, but if i can look at ANY business model and go "wow, those guys aren't assholes", it's webcomics). why does this matter? because every single one of those hits is financially valuable to their website (assuming an ad-supported model). even using ad-blocking software, you're still increasing their unique web impression, which once again, is directly financially valuable to webcomic artists.

second, and some would argue that this is more important, by linking to and upvoting imgur-hosted webcomics, you are directly divorcing the artist from their work, meaning that the layman will have almost no chance of knowing who created something they enjoyed, and thus further depriving the artist of unique web impressions, which are directly financially valuable to the artist by increasing the artist's value to advertisers (whether or not you click or even see the ads) (to put this concept into 90's terminology, it's like nielsen ratings. the more people 'watching' the webcomic, the more valuable those 'commercial breaks' are, and the more the artist will get paid just for having the ads on their website.)

obviously the click through traffic is where the real dolla-dolla beelz is at, but what's relevant here is that rehosting an artist's webcomic causes them to lose unique web traffic which causes them to lose unique web impressions which are worth money.

TL;DR: REHOSTING WEBCOMICS IS A HUGE DICK MOVE AND IF WE COULD ALL AGREE ON THAT SO WE CAN ACTUALLY SUPPORT THE ONE FUCKING GROUP OF PEOPLE WHOSE BUSINESS MODEL ISN'T BASED ON ANALLY RAPING THE PUBLIC WITHOUT SO MUCH AS SPIT THAT WOULD BE PRETTY AWESOME.
